Coaches Report

Congratulations to everyone for some great racing and spirit at the Hauch Meet...it's always fun to see how much a bell prize can get swimmers extra motivated to go fast! For most of you Hauch signalled the end of the 2015-16 swim year - while you’re enjoying some time away from the pool, make sure you’re cheering for your LAC teammates who remain in their final preparation for some big meets coming up: Devin and Ryan competing in Gatineau this weekend at the Can-Am meet; 7 swimmers travelling to Edmonton Aug.4-7 for the Summer Nationals (Jessica, David, Vincent, Nathan, Maggie, Aitana and Brayden); Maggie competing for Canada at the Junior Pan-Pacific Championships in Hawaii Aug.24-27, and Devin swimming at his 3rd Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro from  Sept.8-17.

Congratulations to Alexandra Goodreau and Carter Buck who won their age categories at the Provincial Open Water Championships last Wednesday in Brampton, and to Jacob Kukovica who placed 3rd; and congratulations also to first time Regional Qualifiers at the Hauch Meet Yifanna Wu and Maxwell Trevor.

At this time we say goodbye and good luck to 3 members of our coaching staff who are moving on: Ayman Aldin, Meaghan Fish and Taylor MacMillan are all moving from London to pursue the next stage of their academic careers. I personally would like to extend warm and heartfelt thanks to each of them and wish them all the very best, on behalf of the entire LAC family.

Have a safe and happy summer, wear lots of sunscreen, remember to watch the Olympics on TV starting August 5, and we look forward to seeing everyone in September ready to resume the pursuit of their swimming dreams!

LAC July Swimmer Account Statements

July billing will be sent out later this week and payments will be processed the end of next week. Details to follow by email. Any questions or concerns please email Donna at lacmembership01@gmail.com

It’s Official!

Well that is it for 2015/16!  For most of us the season ended with the Dr. Paul Hauch Invitational on the weekend, and what a finish!  I think everyone who attended would agree that the meet went very well.  Congratulations and thank you to our Meet Manager Fraser Gatt who has owned this meet (and the weather) for the last few years.  Excellent job once again Fraser!

On behalf of Fraser and Minor official coordinator Mike Joudrey, I want to thank everyone who came out to help, even though many of you already had your session credits collected for this year. There were a few coronary events and panic attacks for Fraser, Mike and myself as the meet approached and officials were looking scarce, but in the end, as always, you came through and we produced a meet that everyone can be proud of!  As always, we had a few non-LAC people who came to help out and this time I want to thank Bonnie Marceau (St. Thomas) and Greg Moore (Blenheim) who were there helping as senior officials for every session!  We had a number of LACers who did the same.  Thank you all for your tremendous effort!

Special Congratulations to Trevor Pool!

Trevor completed the final requirement for Level 3 on the weekend, all we await is approval from the ROR to finalize his new level.  Trevor is very keen.  You may have noticed him stepping in as Referee, under the watchful eye of Greg Lewis, on Sunday morning.  Keep up the good work Trevor.  We also got Steve Baarda off to a quick start with his first session as Referee after achieving Level 3 just a couple of weeks ago!  Great job Steve!

Many of you noticed the special dress code of the Senior Officials at Hauch on Sunday.  This seemed to be positively received so we may well dress all of the officials that way next year!  Start scouring the thrift stores and the shops on the Grand Bend main drag now.

Finally I want to close out by thanking Donna Moskal and Rose Bloch-Hansen for picking up most of the new officials administration that got added to clubs this year.  I could not have done it without these two awesome ladies!

Okay, I am signing off for this season.  I hope to see most of you back at clinics and meets starting in late September or early November.  Have a great summer!
