COACHES REPORT

With Thanksgiving and our Time Trial and Banquet behind us, the fall season will start to fly by. It is very important for everyone to do their very best to get just a tiny little bit better on a daily basis.  The training habits you are forming now are the habits that will show up in competition sooner or later in the season, so hopefully you are working purposefully and persistently on good habits like streamlining and dolphin kicking underwater off the wall and stroking before you breathe on the break-outs and finishing every repeat and every set as well as you start it.  And the most important time to focus on these great skills is when you are working the hardest and in the most discomfort. What did our banquet guest speaker Michelle Williams say: "Get comfortable with being uncomfortable." When you focus on your skills in the really challenging sets it accomplishes 2 things: first, it takes your mind off your burning muscles and heavy breathing and pulsing heart. Second, over time these skills that you are practicing under "race stress", when you are working really, really hard, will become hard-wired and will happen almost automatically for you in the race. Competition is not about "rising to the occasion".  When you go to a swim meet your performance will not be magically elevated to a new level that you never practiced - what really happens is you perform at the level of your training in the days and weeks prior to the meet.  In the critical moment (the swim meet), we fall back on our training more than we "rise to the occasion." Thus the importance of perfecting your technique when you are giving 100% effort...over, and over, and over again.

2017 FLORIDA TRAINING CAMP

The coaches are well on their way planning the 2017 Florida Training Camp.

The cost of the camp will be approximately $1650, a deposit of $200 will be due by Friday Oct 28 for any swimmers planning on attending the camp. Sign up is available on the LAC website for those planning to attend. The deadline for sign up is Friday October 28.

IT’S OFFICIAL!

If you are hoping to work one or more senior positions at Nothers please get to me soon with your session availability and job preferences.  If you are going to be attending a senior clinic (these are other than Intro and Strokes and Turns Clinics) and want a mentoring session, please do the same.

Clinics!

The Western Region is hosting another day of clinics on Sunday, October 30, 2016.  Please see last week’s newsletter for details.

Local LAC clinics have been scheduled.  The CFJ and CJE clinics are scheduled together because they have convenient learning overlaps.  This makes for a long clinic but it IS considered 2.  The most common positions used to get to Level II are Chief Timekeeper and Clerk Of Course.  These have been scheduled one after the other the same night.  Hopefully those aspiring to level II can make it to one or both of these.  If not, one of the others can work just as well for your third position.  Note that the Starter Clinic is for the person who says ‘Take your marks.’  All of these clinics are at CGAC in either the Ground Floor or the Lower Level Meeting Rooms.  Sign-ups will be posted shortly.  Oh, it is not a coincidence that 6 positions are required for Level III, and I have 6 clinics scheduled!

Chief Finish Judge / Chief Judge Electronics – Lower – Wednesday, November 2 – 6:00 to 9:00 PM

Starter – Lower – Thursday, November 3 – 6:00 to 8:00 PM
