COACHES REPORT

GREAT JOB EVERYONE this past weekend at our Nothers Invitational. Over 77% best times and over 250 races being successfully completed for the first time by some of our younger swimmers. 85 swimmers established pb's in 100% of their swims, and looking at the results it appears that several swimmers will have already achieved the annual banquet Gold Improvement Medallion criteria of 300+ seconds improved, based solely on their results from Nothers! 37 swimmers collected almost 90 medals (31G-30S-28B), 31 relay teams swam to top 3 finishes, and many other swimmers placed in the top 8 in an individual event. The list of competition behaviors discussed last week appeared to be very well followed, in particular the final 3 reminders about taking one race at a time, staying positive and keeping things in perspective, and being a great teammate were all on full display. For our 13&over swimmers, many of whom were first-time finalists, we are very happy with the 75 of 86 Sat finals swims that were faster than the preliminary results, and even happier with the 54 out of 56 on Sun night - that's called finishing strong! Lots of close races too where LAC swimmers got their hand on the wall first, whether it was for 1st place or 7th place. Great job swimmers!

Thank you to our army of LAC volunteers and especially Meet Manager Karen Campbell, without whose efforts our eager and capable swimmers would not get the chance to show off their competition readiness and reap the rewards of their hard work. Let's all  "stay in the zone" for a few more weeks as we head into the Holiday Time Trial, Pointe Claire, and the Ontario Junior International - everyone has another opportunity to swim fast!

And remember as we look forward to 2017, it is your training that sets the floor, it is your attitude that sets the ceiling.

Special congratulations to first time Regional qualifiers Ryan Ball, Alec Gelz and Hollie Keough, and to first time Provincial qualifiers Ashton Kelly and Katia Langham. Congratulations also to first time All-Time Top 10 performer Katie Callon, in the 13/14 girls 100BK.

NOTHERS INVITATIONAL

This past weekend our LAC family pulled together to host the annual LAC Nothers Fall Invitational Swim Meet.    I want to thank everyone for their hard work and enthusiasm. Together we welcomed 12 clubs and 600 swimmers into our house for some great swimming and great fun.We couldn't have done it without the senior officials that travelled in to support us and the volunteers from other clubs who joined our own volunteers on deck and in the office. Behind the scenes our setup crew had us ready to go Friday morning and our canteen team members kept us well fed throughout the weekend.

As the meet manager I feel very fortunate to have had the support of everyone involved. Thank you.

IT’S OFFICIAL!

Nothers Round-up

Do we host a great meet or what?  I received a tremendous amount positive feedback at the Nothers and I want to share that with every volunteer who helped this past weekend.  Congratulations and thank you to our Meet Manager extraordinaire, Karen Campbell.  Excellent work as usual Karen!  That also goes for LAC officials, minor official coordinators, visiting officials, canteen, awards, and set-up crews, and food and program sales teams.  You are a great team! And we should all be very pleased.  Looking just at our senior officials, we had 49 people from LAC and other clubs filling these roles and mentoring and being mentored.  This was a tremendous learning meet!  Oh, you were looking pretty sharp out there as well with all of that red and black, and white and black!

THANK YOU Paul and Elizabeth Lobo! I hope that everyone noticed that the new starting blocks were nicely installed on the deep end for Nothers.  This would not have been possible without Paul and Elizabeth Lobo, of GPL Machine and Tool, who very generously spent time working with me in designing and then spent much more time on their own to create the beautiful new adapter plates that allowed the blocks to fit to the floor mounts from two generations of starting blocks (27 years) ago.  When you see Paul and Elizabeth be sure to thank them for helping the club with their special talents!  As Paul loves to say, "It's all for the kids!"  Very nice people!

Holiday Invitational

I am the competition coordinator for the LAC Holiday Invitational.  If you would like to be a senior official or to be mentored in a senior job at that meet, please let me know.  There are limited spots available.

Officials Red Shirts

Red officiating shirts can still be ordered.  There are more meets coming up!  Please see the information in the Spiritwear section in the newsletter from 3 weeks ago.

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at lac.coc@gmail.com

THANK YOU GERARD SHOEMAKER

Swim parent Gerard Shoemaker has very generously donated an Automatic External Defibrillator to the Canada Games Aquatic Centre. The AED donated by Dr.Shoemaker can be seen mounted on the wall leading to the bleachers on the main level. An important part of our club mission statement is to provide opportunities for all in a positive, caring and safe environment. Thank you Dr.Shoemaker for helping us continue to realize this vision.
