December 12

There will be no LAC workouts from Dec 24 to Jan 1 – Happy Holidays!

The training schedule for Jan.2-7 has been posted under the "Schedules" tab on the website.

Well done to all swimmers who raced last weekend, whether you were one of the 45 who made the trip to Pointe Claire or the 115 who swam at the Holiday Time Trial. The Pointe Claire meet is always a big, exciting, challenging undertaking. It provides not just an opportunity for our swimmers to race with some of the best swimmers from across eastern Canada, it also provides the opportunity to develop travelling and living skills that help strengthen swimmer responsibility and self-reliance, as well as solidifying the family-like bond amongst teammates. It is a HARD meet, and that is precisely why we do it, to see how each of you responds to the challenges of long travel, crowded living, early rises, late dinners, and plenty of tough racing. You all responded extremely well. It wasn't the 77% best times of Nothers just two weeks ago, when you were sleeping in your own bed and had Mom and Dad making your meals and driving you to the pool. It was 55% personal bests, including more than 50% best times in the finals events that were swum in the 50m pool. Our 11/12 yr olds did an outstanding job, racing to pb's in 78% of their swims. Special congratulations to: 1)the five swimmers who had 100% personal bests: Kiera Ball, Lauren Campbell, Josh Ellis, Amaris Peng and Yifanna Wu  2)our individual medalists Holly Holden (2 gold), Yudi Yang (3 silver), Junsoo Pak (2 silver, 1 bronze), Julia Blaha, Hilary Bruce and Emilee Pool (1 silver)  3)those recognized by their teammates as "Swimmer of the Session" (receiving the LAC hard hat award)  4)Julia Blaha, Madeline Cliche and Samantha Fish for all making their first Eastern Canadian Championship qualifying times  5)Julia for breaking into the LAC All-Time Top 10 rankings for the first time.

A special THANK YOU to our chaperone team - proof of the tireless, selfless and endless work of Jane Callon, Trevor Pool, Elisabeth Lobo and Lisa Campbell lies in the great results of our swimmers.

The Holiday Time Trial saw many of you race events that you had never done before, and all reports are there were some great results. Now you all have a target for the next phase of your training toward those particular events, events by the way that are critical to successful long term development. Endurance and versatility are two of the important cornerstones of competitive success.

Parkas, towels and backpacks have now arrived and available for pick up. There will be someone in the LAC office (on the main floor above the shallow end of the pool) at CGAC this week Friday from 5:00 – 6:00 pm and Saturday from 7:30 – 9:00 am.

We are still waiting on the warm up suits from the September, October and November orders, we will let you know when these have arrived.

All session credits are up to date. Information on how to access your credits is available on the LAC website under the “Parent Info” tab. If you have any questions please email Donna

PAD payments will be withdrawn Dec 15. Pointe Claire cheques will be deposited tomorrow. If you have any questions please contact Donna at

Holiday Invitational – We had another great meet on Saturday evening.  Lots of officials trying new positions and some others getting more experience, improving their skills, and getting ready for sign-offs.  Thank you to Michael Mohammed who stepped up to be Meet Manager when I had to move to Competition Coordinator.  Great job Michael!

12 and Under Celebration - If you are interested in Senior Official job(s) at the 12 and Under Celebration and have the clinic, please contact Denise McDonald at and let her know what job(s) you would like to try and when you are available.

WOSA Short Course Championship - I am the Competition Coordinator for WOSA and I have already received requests for senior officiating positions so, if you are interested, you can contact me any time.

Clinics - I have had some inquiries about officiating clinics.  My next set of clinics will start in January in support of the above two meets.  Look for more information in future Newsletters as it becomes available.  I am planning on sticking with Friday evenings and Saturday mornings.  If that does not work for you, and you need a specific clinic, please let me know and I will see what I can do to accommodate you.

Senior Officials Jobs – Do you want to find out more about what these jobs involve?  Log on to the LAC website, hover your cursor over the Officials tab near the upper right and click on Levels/Positions from the drop down.  You will find descriptions of all of the positions listed there.

Officials Red Shirts - Timers and Chief Timers wear white shirts and all other officials wear red.  Red officiating shirts can still be ordered.  There are more meets coming up!  Please see the information in the Spiritwear section in the newsletter back on November 7.

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at
