COACHES REPORT

Here's a training reminder from SwimSwam contributor Olivier Leroy Poirier (YourSwimBook.com) on the importance of good technique: Take your foot off the gas. Going fast is great. Going fast is exhilarating. Going fast is just flat out fun! Balance that super swiftness with some slow, focus-based swimming where you are noticing your hand placement, your feel for the water, your body position, and any leaks in power. It’s hard to keep track of this stuff when you are driving through the water with all your might, so nail the details when your coach asks you to slow down...get the little things right and ramp up the speed from there!

How does this translate for us here at LAC? When you are doing drills, try to do them as close to perfectly as possible. Ask yourself while you are drilling: "Why is this a drill?" The coaches should have no trouble recognizing what drill you are doing when they have given you the choice. It is the swimmer who uses "choice drill" time to sharpen and hone and polish their technique, to think about their technique, who will realize small and sometimes almost imperceptible positive changes in technique and skill, and who will take another small step toward their goal. It's easy to swim hard, but it's hard to swim easy!

JANUARY 21 TIME TRIAL

The 13&Over Time Trial this Saturday will have a 4:30pm warm-up, a 5:30pm start, and a tentative finish time of 7pm.  All swimmers are expected to stay for a 8x50FR relay at the conclusion of the time trial.

SPIRITWEAR ORDERS

The January spiritwear order has been placed. Next order will be March.

LAC SESSION CREDITS

Information on how to access your credits is available on the LAC website under the “Parent Info” tab. If you have any questions please email Donna lacmembership01@gmail.com

IT’S OFFICIAL!

12 and Under Celebration: We need Strokes and Turns Judges and Timers – We have enough swimmers that we need to run the meet at both ends.  We are covered for Senior Officials but I was just checking the sign-ups and we still need a few Judges of Strokes and Turns and quite a few Timers.  If you are available for a session that you have not already signed up for, please log on to the LAC website and volunteer.  Anyone can sign up for Timer but you must have taken the clinic first to be a Judge of Strokes and Turns.

13 and Over Time Trial Session Times – Note that there has been a small change to the session times.  Warm-up at 4:30 PM, start at 5:30 PM, finished by 8:00 PM.

WOSA Short Course Championship - I am the Competition Coordinator for WOSA.  I will be putting out a call to the region for senior officials on Wednesday.  If you want to work senior official positions at WOSA, and have not already done so, please let me know NOW.  I need to know the sessions that you are available and what positions you are seeking.

Clinics – We had two successful clinics on the weekend.  It turns out that Saturdayevening IS a viable option for a clinic!  I plan to run the rest of the clinics in the weeks between the 12 and Under Celebration and the WOSA Champs.  Watch for sign-ups when I get them scheduled.

Western Region Clinic Day – Western Region will be hosting a clinic day at Conestoga College in Cambridge on February 12.  Put the date on your calendar and come out for a clinic presented by someone other than me!  Morning refreshments and lunch provided. Choose a clinic in the morning and again in the afternoon.  More details to come.
