COACHES REPORT

Great swimming from, and congratulations to, our 93-strong contingent at last weekend's Regional Championships. We won the women's, men's, and overall team titles, with top 5 final overall team scores: 1. LAC 1447.5  2. GMAC 918  3. CW 788.5  4. GHAC 684.5  5. BAD 562  We achieved 385 personal bests (68% of our swims); 23 swimmers achieved 100% pbs; 43 swimmers collected a total of 123 individual medals (52G-41S-30B) with another 11 relay medals (4G-4S-3B); and another 18 swimmers finished in the top 8 in an individual event. The team spirit and support for one another's efforts throughout the weekend was exemplary, and the confidence and toughness on display was inspiring. A complete breakdown of our achievements will appear in the "News" section of the website. This weekend it's on to the Provincial and AA Provincial Championships in Brantford, and Maggie MacNeil competes at the prestigious Arena Pro Swim Series in Indianapolis. Time to take that same confidence and toughness "on the road."

WOSA Regional Championships Meet Managers Report

This past weekend, LAC hosted a very successful Championship Meet for the Western Region.  We were able to watch hundreds of very successful swims which included swimmers from across the region achieving first time qualification times for festival and provincial championship meets. 8 new Canadian PARA records (waiting to be confirmed) were also set in OUR pool.  Overall, we believe that all of the swimmers enjoyed their meet.  These results were only achieved because of the dedication that had been demonstrated by the swimmers and the coaches.  From WOSA Meet Management we would like to extend our congratulations to all the swimmers for their achievements.

It is time now to thank the army of volunteers who dedicated hundreds of hours to make this event successful.  On Wednesday evening we were running into crisis mode because we were short timers and strokes and turns judges.  With the call for assistance from Coach Andrew, LAC parents heeded the call and pitched in making each session run seamlessly.  Meets of this magnitude can not run without the efforts of you, the volunteer.   Martin and I wish we could thank each of you personally, but unfortunately, we have to do it via this note.  So from Martin and I, THANK YOU.   As with every meet, there were a few exceptional stand outs who, behind the scenes, were foundations of support in making the event run smoothly.  First, to our canteen Manager, Tim Clark and his team of volunteers.  Thanks for the great food, keeping us hydrated and the purple Gatorade. To Mike Joudrey for organizing the officials and making sure everyone was where they should be.  Craig Forsey and the support of TMD for all of the signage you saw around the complex and the great programs that were printed before and during the meet.  Now everyone's favourite, Mark Lukings, our Competition Coordinator.  Mark's dedicated efforts before, during and after the meet, kept things running and he was able to provide guidance several times to that phrase, "Well I've never seen that happen before!"  The top award this weekend goes to, (pause for suspense) Rose Bloch-Hansen.  Rose was our office manager who started way before the meet, helping us get the event file in order, during the meet, putting out fires as they flared up and at the conclusion of the meet, awarding me with a bankers box full of paperwork.

We would like to thank our main sponsors for this meet, Tourism London for their generous financial support, Tim Hortons, for their coffee and food donations, Marble Slab for their financial contribution, and to one of our LAC families, the Greggs, for their SUBWAY food donation for the officials. Please remember to support these organizations whenever possible.

Meets like this always run smoothly for one reason; YOU,THE VOLUNTEER!   I encourage everyone to consider an experience like this and continue to support our club to make it the most successful it can be.   Stay involved.

Thanks again for everyone's support to this meet.

Trevor Pool and Martin Troughton

IT’S OFFICIAL!

WOSA Short Course Championships – Wow!  What a meet!  Let’s give a huge congratulations and thank you to Trevor Pool and Martin Troughton on an absolutely spectacular performance in putting together the meet this weekend.  Everyone involved, both LAC and visiting volunteers, should be very proud of how it turned out because, everyone who helped, played a critical role in creating the awesome result.

Provincial Championships - Hey, what do you know!  Here is an opportunity to help at the next level of championship.  Provincials are this weekend in Brantford.  If you will be in attendance anyway, or if you want to go for the experience, they are in need of strokes and turns and timing officials all days.  After our recent struggle with staffing Friday afternoon at WOSA, it is not a surprise that Brantford is having some struggle with staffing, especially Thursday and Friday.  If you can help, please contact Crosby Gibson crosby.gibson@rogers.comfor for Strokes and Turns and bacevents30@yahoo.com for timing.

LAC Pentathlon April 9, 2017 – It is not too soon to contact Bonnie Marceau, the Competition Coordinator, at brmarceau@rogers.com about getting senior officiating jobs at this great one day meet.

Official Name Tags – I have had a number of people ask me how to get the name tags that senior officials wear that hold their officiating pin.  If you are interested, please email me with the EXACT spelling of your name, as you want it to appear on the tag.  I believe the cost is less than $10.00 but, if it is more, then I will let you know prior to placing the order.

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at lac.coc@gmail.com
