There will be workouts during the March Break for those Senior swimmers attending World Trials and Eastern Canadian Championships (you will receive a schedule from Coach Craven)

Fri Mar 31  Senior Bronze 5:00 – 6:00 pm at WSRC

CONGRATULATIONS to our 20 swimmers who raced at the Provincial Championships and AA Meet in Brantford last weekend. Coming off some great racing at Regionals these swimmers were able to once more "go to the well" and achieve some very good results, with a total of 54 personal bests (over 60% of total swims) between the 2 meets and some excellent relay performances (21 out of 32 relay splits were personal bests). We collected 11 Provincial Championship medals (8 individual and 3 relay); Katie Callon achieved her first Canadian Junior and Eastern Canadian times; Sam Cormier and Jack Haycock achieved their first Eastern Canadian times. Amongst many strong performances our performer of the meet was Carter Buck, who won 2 silver and 1 bronze medal and a relay bronze swimming the anchor leg on the open men's 4x50 medley relay, as well as achieving 100% best times in a gruelling program of 8 events including both the 800 and 1500FR races. Well done Carter. Special congratulations also to our gold medalists and Provincial champions Menley Langham in the 200BR, and our open men's 4x50FR relay members Dominic Cappa, David Hickey, Sam Cormier, and Ben Rosedale.

Now is a good time to take a look back on your season to date, as we spring forward into the second phase of the swimming year, and evaluate your progress. Think about one thing in each of the following areas: one thing you are going to keep doing, one thing you are going to start doing, and one thing you are going to stop doing. Identify these 3 things, and apply them now.

Date of the swim-a-thon: Friday April 14th @ CGAC

6:00-8:00am - Age Group Gold/Silver/Orange
8:00-10:00am - Senior Gold/Silver/Bronze
10:00-noon - Age Group Blue/Bronze/Development

Congratulations to Alex Lobo for being the first swimmer to raise $250! Alex has earned the prize of a LAC cap and his choice of LAC hat! The first swimmer to raise $500 will be the next winner!  Also, there will be a prize for the group that has the highest percentage of swimmers registered and raising money (a Saturday morning breakfast at the pool!).

All of our fundraising efforts for swim-a-thon are done using Swim Canada's online fundraising program.  To register your swimmer (or swim family if you have multiple swimmers and would prefer one family page) please follow this link to get started and begin collecting donations.  Our club goal this year is $10,000 and there will be fantastic prizes available to win! Every swimmer who raises over $100 will be entered into a prize draw. The top 3 fundraisers will receive LAC spirit wear, and the top 12 fundraisers will be invited to a bowling party with the coaches!

Remember the funds raised from swim-a-thon will go towards improving equipment for meets, increased coaching education, and updating our club record board.

If you have any questions about Swim-a-thon please contact Meggin at

Those who donate $10 or more to a swimmer will be eligible for a charitable tax receipt.  Swimming Canada has rules around eligibility for receipts.  Under no circumstance is a Parent/Legal Guardian or Parent's company eligible for a tax receipt.

March statements were sent out on Friday March 3 if you did not receive a statement or have any concerns contact Donna at Payments will be withdrawn by PAD on Wednesday March 15.

The next spiritwear order will be placed March 27. If you would like to place an order please fill out the spirit wear form on the LAC website under the “Swimmer A/C” tab, under “LAC Swim Equipment”.

Information on how to access your credits is available on the LAC website under the “Parent Info” tab. If you have any questions please email Donna

New Levels Achieved - We had a few people take a step up the officiating ladder at Western Region SC Champs.  Congratulations to Scott Taylor of Brock Niagara Aquatics on achieving Level 4 and collecting his green pin.  Congratulations and thank you to Troy Ellig and Joanna Makinson, both from LAC, who achieved level 2 by completing the requirement of 3 clinics with 2 deck sign-offs for each!  I encourage you to ask them about it and I believe that you will hear that it is the same amount of work, maybe less, and it makes volunteering more interesting because you can have a variety of things to do at the meets!  More fun, not more work, and you get a sense of achievement, all while doing something that Swim Ontario requires from a certain number of LAC officials.  Why not!

LAC Pentathlon April 9, 2017 – It is not too soon to contact Bonnie Marceau, the Competition Coordinator, about getting senior officiating jobs at this great one day meet.

Rule Of the Week – Backstroke Start Ledges – When using the backstroke ledges some part of EACH foot must be in contact with the wall. Ironically, when NOT using the backstroke ledges, there is NOT a rule saying that the feet need to be on the wall at all! Of course not doing so would make for a very slow start!

Official Name Tags – I have had a number of people ask me how to get the name tags that senior officials wear that hold their officiating pin.  If you are interested, please email me with 'Name Tag' in the subject and the EXACT spelling of your name, as you want it to appear on the tag.  I believe the cost is less than $10.00 but, if it is more, then I will let you know prior to placing the order.

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at
