COACHES REPORT

We will have almost 100 swimmers competing in Windsor this weekend at the Long Course Regional Championships. Congratulations once again to those of you for whom this will be your first-ever Regional Championship experience. Enjoy it, be confident, and remember that you deserve to be there, you have worked hard to get there and you should be proud that you are there. Take it all in, and file it for next year when you will be there again and can use this experience to help you rise through the ranks. For some of you the meet will be another opportunity for race preparation as you continue working toward other championship meets later in June and July. Approach every single race as an opportunity to refine some technical or tactical detail as identified by you and your coach, as well as an opportunity to harden your competitive reliability and toughness. Some of you will be using the meet as a final opportunity to go after qualifying times for the provincial or national championship meets later in the summer - focus on the race process, not on your desired outcome, and focus on optimal preparation both at the pool and away from it. And be positive - if you think you can do it you might, if you don`t think you can do it you definitely will not. And finally, for some of you it will be the final championship event of the 2016-17 swimming year...hard to believe we`re already here! As above, take care of your preparation at the pool and away from it, focus on your race plans and not your hoped-for race results, and be amazingly positive about what you might be able to accomplish. We`ll very likely be the biggest team there, so we better be the loudest and proudest and most supportive of one another. We`ll go with a royal, orange and royal T-shirt rotation, that`s R-O-A-R! Everyone have fun, race smart and race tough...ONE RACE AT A TIME!

CONGRATULATIONS to Maggie MacNeil on her 2 gold and 3 bronze medal performance at the Mel Zajac International in Vancouver as part of the Canadian Junior team May 26-28. Maggie also established 5 club records in the process. She is now off to Santa Clara, California for the Arena Pro Swim Series.

CONGRATULATIONS to Coaches Liz, Meggin and Emma for their participation in a Women in Coaching Clinic at Mount Allison University in Sackville, N.B., May 19-21. We are always seeking to broaden our knowledge base as a coaching staff through unique learning opportunities, and all three of our coaches came back from this event with tools and information that will make them, and all of us, better.

WOSA REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS TRAVEL ADVISORY

It has come to our attention that the westbound 401 (on the way to Windsor) between Chatham and Tilbury is currently reduced to one lane due to construction. You can expect at least an additional 30mins of travel time at peak times so please make your travel plans for this weekend accordingly.

DR PAUL HAUCH MEET

Our Hauch meet is fast approaching and in keeping with tradition we will be doing our famous bell heats. Instead of asking for a food donation for this meet, each family will be asked to donate $10 worth of prizes (broken up into smaller prize amounts if possible to spread the prizes out further.) Examples from previous years are $5 gift cards, Towels, Water bottles and a variety of fun toys for the kids to play with around the pool for the day.
When you have your prizes please bring them to your coach or Jane Callon. Please make sure to attach a swim family name when handing in your prizes.

SHOP AND EARN CASH BACK FOR LAC!

Have fun shopping online while earning money towards our club!  We can compete with other swim clubs and sports teams in our area to see who can raise the most money for our team!  You can follow along on the website to see how much is raised to date and how many people have purchased through our club.  Feel free to invite friends and family to join in the fun!

It's easy to set up by following the simple instructions.

Shop brands such as Indigo, Starbucks, Sephora, Walmart, Old Navy, Lowes, The Bay, Booking.com, Groupon and even Gift Cards (East Side Marios, Swiss Chalet, etc)

When you order a $50 Gift Card, for example, $5 goes to LAC.  You can print it off immediately.

An additional $5 will be donated to LAC for each new member that places an order.

NOTICE OF LAC ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The LAC Board of Directors extends an invitation to all LAC parents to attend the upcoming Annual General Meeting of the Club. The AGM will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 beginning at 7.00 pm at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre in the upper level meeting room. New swim families will receive one session credit that may be applied next season.

Further information including a copy of the Minutes from the 2016 AGM and a proxy for 2017 is posted on the website under the Events tab. Please register on the Events sign up page.

IT’S OFFICIAL!

Hi Everyone.  The two notices below are the same as last week.  So far I have 8 volunteers for senior positions at Hauch (4 of which are not LAC officials with swimmers), and zero volunteers for Meet Managers next season.  Your help would be very much appreciated. For those who are trying to advance as officials, Meet Manager is a good position to get started on early, as there are only so many meets in a season.

Dr. Paul Hauch Invitational (July 14 to 16): We are down to the last meet of the season!  For those who are new, this is our fun outdoor season-closing celebration.  Once again, we will need lots of help.  I am the Meet Referee (also known as the Competition Coordinator) who is in charge of officiating at the meet.  Minor officials (Timers and Strokes and Turns) sign-ups will be posted later by Mike Joudrey, but I need to start with the senior officials now.  If you have taken the clinic and can help as a senior official please let me know ASAP, via email, listing the positions that you want and the sessions that you can work.  The meet should be sanctioned shortly and the specific times will then be available but there are 2 sessions on Friday with warm-ups starting around noon and 3:30 PM and 2 sessions on both Saturday and Sunday starting at 8:00 AM and 1:00 PM.

Meet Managers for the 2017-18 Season:  It is already that time of year where we begin the hunt for meet managers for next season.  This is a job that provides a great feeling of accomplishment, much of it will be done on your own schedule prior to the meet, and you have lots of people to lean on and learn from.  If you are new we will give you the clinic and help you through the process.  If you are interested in learning more, please contact me at the email address below.

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at lac.coc@gmail.com
