The 2017-18 training schedule is posted on the LAC website.

The 2017-18 competition calendar will be posted on the website in the very near future.

As you all take the first steps on your 2017-18 swimming journey, it's important to remember that every journey needs a destination. You should all have a long term objective, somewhere you want to be by the end of the season, and then, more importantly, some very clear short-term goals in mind, what you want to accomplish this week and today. A goal is not something you HOPE for, it is something towards which you work purposefully and passionately! HOPE is not a strategy...the coaches do not want you standing behind the blocks at the big meet with your fingers crossed...HOPING. Constant, consistent effort and attention to the details will see you achieve your goals.

That said, when we set goals they are shimmering and shiny, perfect and glossy - but we must be willing to accept that the road to achieving them will be filled with challenges, both expected and unexpected. Walls will rise up in front of you and people will say "You can't do that." Accept that things will not go according to plan, that the path will be sometimes bumpy and lonely, and will not be straight. If you are able to do this, yet continue to work constantly and consistently, purposefully and passionately, paying attention to the details, and staying positive, then you will be one step closer to achieving success.

CONGRATULATIONS once again to Adam Purdy for his induction on Saturday night into the Ontario Aquatic Hall of Fame at the annual Swim Ontario Awards banquet. Adam's induction speech was awesome and inspiring, and he has been a fantastic ambassador for the London Aquatic Club and the sport of swimming since 1992. Adam is the 7th LAC-affiliated athlete or builder to go into the Hall since its inception in 1990, and the first since Ken Fitzpatrick in 2013.

Long-time LAC official Bill Gauld, who passed away in August, was the recipient of the John Grootveld Memorial Award, which goes to officials who have contributed at least 25 years of service and demonstrated exemplary leadership in mentoring new officials.

CGAC’s club swipe passes were distributed last week, if your swimmers did not receive one please see your coach. These will come into effect the week of October 2nd. Swimmers will need their pass to gain access to the pool deck level at CGAC.

As mentioned last week I encourage new LAC families to get started by coming out to the Introduction to Swimming Officiating clinic.  In this clinic we cover session credits, the basics of officiating and the specifics of the first positions, timing and Safety Marshal.  This is the clinic that is mentioned in the registration material as being required for all LAC families.  It, like all of the clinics, is also available for anyone wanting a refresher.  I am looking forward to meeting you there!

I have scheduled one Introduction to Swimming Officiating clinic on Friday October 6 from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM in the upstairs (entrance level) meeting room at CGAC.  I am also working on booking an early morning clinic on Saturday October 7 from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM at CHOCC, but it has not been confirmed yet.  Sign-ups will be posted on the LAC home page shortly.  If no sign-up appears for Saturday then I was unable to book the room.

Our first meet of the season is fast approaching.  It is the LAC – Fall Start-Up on Sunday October 15 starting at 7:00 AM.  This is a time trial which means it is for LAC only, and the swimmers are there to get some experience with how a meet runs, prior to attending a big meet, and also to get some current entry times.  We will require all of the same officials as any meet and the sign-ups for Timers and Judges of Strokes and Turns will be posted soon. You will receive an email when those are posted.  I also require senior officials.  I have a Referee.  I still require a Starter, Chief Timer, Clerk of Course, Chief Finish Judge, Recorder/Scorer, and a Timing System Operator.  All of these senior positions (except Timing System Operator) require that you have taken the clinic prior to doing the job.  If you are interested please email me at the email address below.  If you have taken the clinic but have little experience and desire a mentor, let me know that as well.

Returning officials, please note that we require a signed PIPEDA form from each LAC official so that we can keep your registration active with Swim Ontario.  Please go to print and fill out the form for each official representing your family, have them sign and date it and then give them to Donna or put it in the LAC mailbox just inside the front doors of CGAC.

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at

Club hosted meets help to reduce membership fees by 20-25% as well as reducing travel costs by attending fewer out-of-town meets. To ensure the Club has sufficient resources to host meets, most LAC swim families are required to work a minimum of 22 sessionsduring club hosted meets (please see below for exceptions). These sessions may be worked through officiating or working at the club’s food canteen, awards or other positions. Any unfulfilled session credits will be billed at a rate of $40.00 per session to the swim family’s Swimmer Account at the end of the season. Please note that this is not meant to be a “fundraiser” but rather an incentive to participate in the running of home meets. Swim families may receive up to 5 donated session credits from another club family to complete their credits, however any more than the 5 donated session credits must be approved by the board. Session commitments are waived for first year swim families with no prior competitive swim club affiliation, as well as for introductory and post-secondary students training full time with the club and for varsity swimmers, although assistance during swim meets from these groups is greatly appreciated.  First year families ARE required to fulfill the LAC orientation program. This includes an introductory club meeting, participating in an Introductory to Swimming clinic during the swim season and a follow up “on-deck” mentoring session.

*** Families of Development swimmers who are not in their first year of competitive swimming who do not have a swimmer in another level are required to fulfill only 11 of the assigned session credits.***

*The number of session credits will be reviewed by the board in the fall upon club enrolment and may be subject to change.

There is a session credit FAQ under the "Parent Info" tab under "Session Credits.

Instructions for ordering swim equipment can be found on the LAC website under “Swimmers Info” under the “LAC swim equipment” tab. Also found on the website is the TAS shark card, you will need this card when purchasing Team Aquatic Supplies merchandise at swim meets or in their stores.
