Tues Oct 31 NO Age Group Bronze Workout

Hopefully everyone has signed up for the Time Trial and annual Awards Banquet this coming Sunday (Oct.15). This is the first time we'll have everyone together since we started one month ago, so a great opportunity for younger swimmers to watch and meet older swimmers, and for newer parents to get a sense of the swim meet experience and the feeling of "family" that permeates the LAC organization.

A reminder on the swim meet side of things, generally the coaches will select the events they want your children to swim in the various meets throughout the year.  As swimmers become more experienced they are given more input in the event selection process. The coaches strive to ensure that all swimmers compete in all events throughout the season, with a view toward variety, versatility and durability. One of the important tenets of the "Long Term Athlete Development Strategy" is "non-specialization" in the early stages. The "PENCIL" metaphor is a good one to describe the "non-specialization" principle: If you always use the same pencil, it requires constant sharpening, and soon enough the pencil is sharpened right down to nothing.  The coaches work with our younger swimmers to ensure a) a full pencil case and b) sharp pencils! And this is achieved by focussing on stroke development in all 4 strokes both in practice and competition.

All LAC Members - New and Returning are welcome!!

Date: Sunday, October 15
Time: 4:30 - 8:30 pm (doors open at 4:30pm, NO EARLIER PLEASE!)
Location: Greek Canadian Club - Sarnia Road East

Celebrate one more time the accomplishments of all our swimmers in 2016-17.

On October 21-22 we are very excited to have one of the world's leading coaches of young, developmental swimmers coming to London to conduct a clinic for our coaching staff. Steve Haufler, from the Orinda Country Club in southern California, is widely regarded as one of the best "learn-to-competitive swim" coaches in the world. His energy and innovation and ability to connect with young swimmers is legendary, and we are most fortunate to have him coming to us exclusively! On Sun.Oct.22 he will speak to parents, sharing his views on our great sport. This talk will take place in the Medway Arena Lounge from 11:30am-12:30pm.

Additionally, Coach Steve has offered to lead our Development swimmers through some special technique sessions. There will be 3 sessions on Sat.Oct.21: session 1 from 4-4:30pm, session 2 from 4:45-5:15pm, and session 3 from 5:30-6pm. On Sun.Oct.22 there will 2 sessions, one from 10-10:30am and another from 10:30-11am. There will sign-ups posted in the "Team Functions" tab of the website, and each session is limited to 8 swimmers, and a limit for now of one session per swimmer. Depending on the response we may open up multiple sessions to the same swimmer. These will take place at the Western University Student Recreation Centre (WSRC). It will be Homecoming Weekend at the university so you are advised to drop your child off at the front doors of WSRC, where they will be met by a LAC coach, as there will be little to no parking available.

October statements were sent out last week, please let Donna know if you did not receive one. If you have any concerns or questions about your statement please email Donna at before October 13. PAD payments will be withdrawn October 16.

Canteen Committee meeting Friday October 13 from 4:30 – 5:30 pm at CGAC in the downstairs meeting room. Any LAC parents interested in becoming involved are welcome to attend. If you have any questions please contact Lisa Levy at

Spiritwear orders have now been placed. The next spiritwear orders will be placed on November 6.  If you would like to place an order please print off the form on the LAC website under the "Swimmer Info" tab under the "LAC Swim Equipment" tab. Complete the order form and deposit it in the LAC mailbox at CGAC. Please include the payment with the order (cheques made out to London Aquatic Club).

LAC Fall Start-Up: Thank you!  To everyone who has responded to the call-out for officials.  All of our positions have been filled.  If you have taken a clinic and have never done the job, it is not timer, and you would like a chance to try the job with a mentor please let me know that, and i will see what I can do.

Nov. 4 Time Trial: The second Time Trial this season is fast approaching. I have a starter but am still in need of people for all of the other senior positions.  If you have the clinic, and are interested in a position, please contact me and I will try to accommodate you.

Clinics:  I will be scheduling numerous clinics between the LAC - Fall Start-Up and the Nothers Fall Invitational.  As they are scheduled, sign-ups will be posted on the LAC home page..

Returning officials, please note that we require a signed PIPEDA form from each LAC official so that we can keep your registration active with Swim Ontario.  Please go to  print and fill out the form for each official representing your family, have them sign and date it and then give the form(s) to Donna or use the LAC mailbox just inside the front doors of CGAC.

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at

Club hosted meets help to reduce membership fees by 20-25% as well as reducing travel costs by attending fewer out-of-town meets. To ensure the Club has sufficient resources to host meets, most LAC swim families are required to work a minimum of 22 sessionsduring club hosted meets (please see below for exceptions). These sessions may be worked through officiating or working at the club’s food canteen, awards or other positions. Any unfulfilled session credits will be billed at a rate of $40.00 per session to the swim family’s Swimmer Account at the end of the season. Please note that this is not meant to be a “fundraiser” but rather an incentive to participate in the running of home meets. Swim families may receive up to 5 donated session credits from another club family to complete their credits, however any more than the 5 donated session credits must be approved by the board. Session commitments are waived for first year swim families with no prior competitive swim club affiliation, as well as for introductory and post-secondary students training full time with the club and for varsity swimmers, although assistance during swim meets from these groups is greatly appreciated.  First year families ARE required to fulfill the LAC orientation program. This includes participating in an Introductory to Swimming clinic during the swim season and a follow up “on-deck” mentoring session.

*** Families of Development swimmers who are not in their first year of competitive swimming who do not have a swimmer in another level are required to fulfill only 11 of the assigned session credits.***

*The number of session credits will be reviewed by the board in the fall upon club enrolment and may be subject to change.

There is a session credit FAQ under the "Parent Info" tab under "Session Credits.

Instructions for ordering swim equipment can be found on the LAC website under “Swimmers Info” under the “LAC swim equipment” tab. Also found on the website is the TAS shark card, you will need this card when purchasing Team Aquatic Supplies merchandise at swim meets or in their stores.
