With our Nothers Invitational in less than 2 weeks, and the fall season flying by, hopefully you have all got yourselves settled into your routines both at school and with your swimming. Last week we talked about how important it is to pay attention with purpose and persistence to the little things in your training. We also remind you that no matter what your goals are, and no matter how hard you work towards them in the pool, if you are neglecting the "invisible" skills, i.e., those habits that no one else can see, your hard work in pursuit of your goals will be in vain. Are you getting enough sleep (60hrs per week is recommended)? Are you keeping your fuel tank topped up by eating and drinking enough? Do you eat something before morning practice (after fasting for 8hrs or more while you sleep)? Are you eating again as soon after morning practice as possible, replenishing the carbohydrates lost during your 90min or 2 hour morning swim? Discipline is what we do when no one is watching - if you form good "invisible" skills in the areas of rest and recovery (sleep-nutrition-hydration), your results in the pool will be very "visible". PURPOSE POINTS US. PASSION PROPELS US.

The food donation list are posted on the LAC website on the “Events” page, please select “job sign up” to select your item. ALL LAC swim families (even if your swimmer is not participating in the meet) will be required to donate food items or will be charged $12 in lieu of donation. The Nothers meet will have entry fees, $10 per event ($12 for 8/1500 Free) as well as $3.50 per relay (relays are assigned at the meet).

All Canteen volunteers for Nothers are kindly asked to please wear a baseball cap, hair covering or, at the very least, long hair tied back for any Canteen shifts you are working (to ensure food handling and preparation to Canadian Food Inspection Agency standards).

On Sat.Dec.2 the Western University Mustangs will be hosting a meet with 4 other universities competing. We are in need of timers and Strokes&Turns judges. If you are "moving up the ladder" and interested in a senior deck position this is a good opportunity to gain experience. Session credits are NOT earned for this event but official sign-offs can be provided and high school student volunteer hours can also be earned.

The meet will be at the Western Student Recreation Centre, warm-up is at 4:30pm, start is 5:30pm with an expected 8:30pm finish.  If you are able to help out please let us know. Thank you.

Officials Registrations: After a new official takes a clinic and starts getting experience, we need to register that official with Swim Canada.  When this happens and the registration reaches a certain point, an email is sent to the official.  The official must follow the instructions in the email to confirm their registration.  This is a reminder to please look for these emails from and follow the steps to complete the required information on your account.  If you have spam blocking on your computer, please check to see if the email went into your spam folder and please make this sender acceptable to your spam filter.

Nothers Fall Invitational:  I am still in need of couple of senior officials for the Sunday afternoon session.  I could also use a few people for each of the Saturday and Sunday Finals sessions to help with marshalling.  Email me if interested.  The senior assignments will be sent out no later than this weekend

Strokes and Turns Mentoring: We have 8 positions available at Nothers in each of sessions 5/6, on Friday, and both the morning and afternoon sessions on Saturday and Sunday.  If you have taken the clinic but would like some on the job training then email me the session(s) that you are available and I will try to set it up.  There will not be sign-ups posted for these learning positions.  First come first serve.  One session per person.

Timing System Trainees: We are always looking for people who would like to try running the timing system.  This is a great job and is only learned on the job with a mentor.  If you are interested, please let me know.  If you can run a smart phone then you should have no trouble with this.  We always go out of our way to make room for people wanting to learn this job.

ClinicsI have 2 more clinics scheduled and the sign-ups are posted.  These 2 classes will conclude this set of clinics.  More will follow in the New Year.  Please don’t sign up for clinics if you are not going to come to them.  If circumstances come up then remove your sign-up to make the spot available for someone else if the sign-ups are still open.

Club hosted meets help to reduce membership fees by 20-25% as well as reducing travel costs by attending fewer out-of-town meets. To ensure the Club has sufficient resources to host meets, most LAC swim families are required to work a minimum of 22 sessionsduring club hosted meets (please see below for exceptions). These sessions may be worked through officiating or working at the club’s food canteen, awards or other positions. Any unfulfilled session credits will be billed at a rate of $40.00 per session to the swim family’s Swimmer Account at the end of the season. Please note that this is not meant to be a “fundraiser” but rather an incentive to participate in the running of home meets. Swim families may receive up to 5 donated session credits from another club family to complete their credits, however any more than the 5 donated session credits must be approved by the board. Session commitments are waived for first year swim families with no prior competitive swim club affiliation, as well as for introductory and post-secondary students training full time with the club and for varsity swimmers, although assistance during swim meets from these groups is greatly appreciated.  First year families ARE required to fulfill the LAC orientation program. This includes participating in an Introductory to Swimming clinic during the swim season and a follow up “on-deck” mentoring session.

*** Families of Development swimmers who are not in their first year of competitive swimming who do not have a swimmer in another level are required to fulfill only 11 of the assigned session credits.***

*The number of session credits will be reviewed by the board in the fall upon club enrolment and may be subject to change.

There is a session credit FAQ under the "Parent Info" tab under "Session Credits.

Instructions for ordering swim equipment can be found on the LAC website under “Swimmers Info” under the “LAC swim equipment” tab. Also found on the website is the TAS shark card, you will need this card when purchasing Team Aquatic Supplies merchandise at swim meets or in their stores.
