Great racing by everyone at our Nothers Invitational. Lots of personal bests whether in the morning, afternoon or evening, many top 3 and top 8 finishes (lots of hardware for the coaches to hand out!), and lots of improvement evident in both technique and tactics. Team spirit was excellent, and all of the behaviours we asked you to focus on during the meet were in full display: being on time, warming up well, checking in with your coach before and after your race, swimming one race at a time, staying properly hydrated and fuelled, displaying great sportsmanship - these are all important competition skills and everyone displayed them.  Remember that Nothers is the first meet of the year...if you had great results, CONGRATULATIONS! You've been working really hard. But we need to remember a swimming year is a marathon, not a sprint, and your great results last weekend are nothing more than a launching pad for even more hard work! There are many more competitions on the horizon, near and far, and we want to see you all racing as well in March and July as you did last weekend. It's a long road, and Nothers is simply the first stop. Ultimate success comes through consistency over the long haul.

For a full recap of Nothers highlights, check the "News" section of the website.

CONGRATULATIONS to first time Regional qualifiers: Ciaran Buyse, Rachael Caron, Andre Howard, Olivia Purdy, Hannah Rice, Victoria Swallow, and Max Wellman; to first time Provincial Festival qualifier Niamh O’Leary; and to first time All Time Top 10 performers Nikola Darvill Kaiser, Emilee Pool and Sydney Spowart.

This past weekend our LAC family pulled together to host the annual Nothers Invitational Fall Swim Meet. I want to thank everyone for their hard work and enthusiasm. Together we welcomed 14 clubs and 640 swimmers into our house for some great swimming and great fun. We couldn't have done it without the senior officials who travelled in to support us and the volunteers from other clubs who joined our own volunteers on deck and in the office. Behind the scenes our set-up crew had us ready to go Friday morning and our canteen team members kept us well fed throughout the weekend. As the meet manager I continue to feel very fortunate to have had the support of everyone involved. Thank you.

Karen Campbell - LAC Nothers Fall Invitational Meet Manager

A huge thank you to Tim Horton's and to Subway, both at the Sherwood Forest Mall, for providing us with complimentary coffee and sandwiches for our volunteers all weekend.

Anyone able to help out this Saturday, December 2, at the Western University Invitational being held at the Western Student Recreation Centre, either timing or as a Strokes&Turns judge, is asked to contact Mary Allen at   Start time is 5:30pm with a scheduled finish of 8pm.

The London Aquatic Club is introducing a Training Bursary Program for swimmers and their families in need of financial assistance to fund some of their training costs.  A formal application process is being introduced and will be open to all members, once registration is completed and will continue in the season until all the money is dispersed.  The funding available for this program will be reviewed yearly by the LAC Board of Directors.

Applications can be submitted using the LAC Mailbox in the lobby of the Canada Games Aquatic Centre.  Place the completed application in a sealed envelope with Training Bursary Application marked on the outside.  The applications will be reviewed by a small, independent committee and the information provided on the application will be kept in strictest confidence in accordance with privacy legislation.

The initial application period is November 1st to 15th each year, with results communicated by December 1st.  As 2017 is the first year this program will be trialled, the application window will be December 1st to 15th with results communicated by early January.  Applications will continue to be accepted following the initial period and reviewed if training bursary funds remain available in the swim season.  Any formal subsequent review periods will be announced via the newsletter.   Bursary awards will be in the form of a credit to the family account. This information is posted on the LAC website under “Parent Info”. For the Application Form, please Click Here. If you have any questions please contact Gill Fish

Nothers: Congratulations and thank you to Karen Campbell our Nothers Meet Manager on another exceptionally well run meet!  Awesome job Karen!  I would like to thank each and every one of the probably well over 200 volunteers who contributed in some way to this meet.  We truly could not have done this without all of you! We can all feel proud of this accomplishment!

Holiday Time Trial: Yes, we are hosting 1 more meet in 2017!  If you are interested in mentoring in or working in a Senior Official position at our Time Trial on December 16 with the warm-up starting at 3:00 PM then please let me know as soon as you can.

Rule Of The Week: Judging the Orientation of The Swimmer.  For Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly turns the swimmer must leave the wall, after a turn, in the correct orientation for the stroke That they are about to perform, meaning on the front for Breaststroke and Butterfly and on the back for Backstroke.  So how do we judge this? Watch the wall.  When the swimmer’s feet leave the wall, THEN, look to the swimmer’s shoulders and based on the relative position of the shoulders determine if the swimmer is more toward their front or more toward their back and decide if that is correct.  The key points here are, AFTER the feet have left the wall and judge based on the relative position of the shoulders.  On the side is okay as long as they are not more toward the wrong side for the stroke.  This call must be made from a position right above the swimmer.  Any place else is out of position for this call and the Referee should reject the official’s observation.  Once I the correct orientation the swimmer must remain in that orientation for the full length, except when executing the turn.

Volunteers Needed: Before I start this, I need to make it clear that session credits are only given for LAC Hosted meets, not for helping at another club’s meet.  That said, we get a lot of help from other clubs at our meets and it is nice if we maintain the good will by returning the favour, especially if you are there anyway.

Club hosted meets help to reduce membership fees by 20-25% as well as reducing travel costs by attending fewer out-of-town meets. To ensure the Club has sufficient resources to host meets, most LAC swim families are required to work a minimum of 22 sessionsduring club hosted meets (please see below for exceptions). These sessions may be worked through officiating or working at the club’s food canteen, awards or other positions. Any unfulfilled session credits will be billed at a rate of $40.00 per session to the swim family’s Swimmer Account at the end of the season. Please note that this is not meant to be a “fundraiser” but rather an incentive to participate in the running of home meets. Swim families may receive up to 5 donated session credits from another club family to complete their credits, however any more than the 5 donated session credits must be approved by the board. Session commitments are waived for first year swim families with no prior competitive swim club affiliation, as well as for introductory and post-secondary students training full time with the club and for varsity swimmers, although assistance during swim meets from these groups is greatly appreciated.  First year families ARE required to fulfill the LAC orientation program. This includes participating in an Introductory to Swimming clinic during the swim season and a follow up “on-deck” mentoring session.

*** Families of Development swimmers who are not in their first year of competitive swimming who do not have a swimmer in another level are required to fulfill only 11 of the assigned session credits.***

*The number of session credits will be reviewed by the board in the fall upon club enrolment and may be subject to change.

There is a session credit FAQ under the "Parent Info" tab under "Session Credits.

Instructions for ordering swim equipment can be found on the LAC website under “Swimmers Info” under the “LAC swim equipment” tab. Also found on the website is the TAS shark card, you will need this card when purchasing Team Aquatic Supplies merchandise at swim meets or in their stores.
