COACHES REPORT

Good luck to everyone who is racing this weekend...your first races of 2018!! A few reminders about proper competition protocols: 1) check in with your coach upon arrival, say "Hi coach! I'm here! And I'm excited to swim fast!" 2) warm up properly and with purpose, take your time, make sure you get out of the warm-up feeling warm, relaxed, and ready to go  3) check in with your coach before and after your race - your coach should be the last person you see for tactical or technical advice before you swim, and the first person you see after you swim to get feedback about your race  4) stay properly fueled (water bottle and light snacks)  5) wear your LAC uniform  6) HAVE FUN!

PURPOSE points us - PASSION propels us - PERSISTENCE prepares us

Ontario University Swimming Championships Feb.8-10

Western University will be hosting this event and will be looking for help.  Anyone interested in timing or strokes and turns should contact Mary Allen at marydan@bigbill.ca or senior officials should contact Suzanne Paulins at rpaulins040@rogers.com.  We have had some great support from London Silver Dolphins and some LAC swim parents and swimmers for the two meets we have hosted this season.  This will be some of the best swimming in Ontario this season with some Olympic and National team swimmers attending.  A large electronic score board will be providing live results and video feed.  It will be fast and exciting and what better place to experience that than right on the deck.  Sessions are short (less than 3 hours) and event shirts will be provided to anyone volunteering at finals.  We are happy to sign forms for high school volunteer hours. Thanks so much for your support of University swimming!

LAC HOCKEY RAFFLE UPDATE

First off, thanks to everyone who’s helped to sell tickets – all are in circulation with over a third of them returned with money collected. As a reminder, once you’ve sold all your tickets, please just put the stubs and the collected money in an envelope and give to Donna or place in the LAC lock-box inside the entrance of CGAC

If you have tickets left that you don’t think you’ll be able to sell in the next few weeks, please return those along with the money from those you did sell to the LAC lock-box by this Friday.  We’ll be selling all the left-over tickets at the U12 meet this weekend, as well as at the WOSA Regionals in a couple of weeks.  Any questions, please send a note to cforsey@tmd.ca Thanks again to everyone for helping out.

LAC SPIRITWEAR ORDERS

The next Spiritwear order will be placed January 26. If you would like to place an order please print off the form on the LAC website under the "Swimmer Info" tab under the "LAC Swim Equipment" tab. Complete the order form and deposit it in the LAC mailbox at CGAC. Please include the payment with the order (cheques made out to London Aquatic Club).

Senior Officials Needed - 12 and Under Celebration, 13 and Over Time Trial,  and WOSA Champs: If you are looking for opportunities to work senior positions at meets, it is a good idea to email the Competition Coordinator early and let them know what you are looking for.  It MIGHT be too late for the 12 and Under Celebration and the January - 13 and over Time Trial but the Competition Coordinator is Denise McDonald: mcdonald.denise.e@gmail.com  For WOSA it is not too late and I lac.coc@gmail.com am the Competition Coordinator.  If you will be taking a clinic and would like to try the job with a mentor then you sign up for that the same way.  When making a request for senior positions, please send separate emails for each meet and include: the meet name in the subject, the sessions that you are available, the jobs that you are interested in and any other special requests such as the end of the pool.  Include if the job is to receive mentorship.   We do our best to accommodate.

Volunteers Needed: Before I start this, I need to make it clear that session credits are only given for LAC Hosted meets, not for helping at another club’s meet.  That said, we get a lot of help from other clubs at our meets and it is nice if we maintain the good will by returning the favour, especially if you are there anyway.  These are great opportunities to earn high school volunteer hours.

London Gliders (Special Olympics) is hosting a 1 session invitational on Sunday, January 28.  Warm-ups start at 7:00 AM and the event is planned to be complete by 1:00 PM.  They are looking for help with Timers and Strokes and Turns officials.  If you can help out, please contact Karen Campbell at: LACmeetmgrkc@gmail.com

Western is hosting the OUA Swimming Championship this year.  The meet is on Thursday to Saturday, February 8-10 (OUAA championships).  A.M. heats and P.M. finals with the likelihood of a short afternoon time trial on the Saturday.  This was a great meet the last time Western hosted it.  It comes highly recommended!  If you can help at the OUA Champs please contact Paul Cappa (Long Time LAC President) at: swim4life@isp.ca or cappa@cohenhighley.com

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at lac.coc@gmail.com

LAC SESSION CREDITS

Club hosted meets help to reduce membership fees by 20-25% as well as reducing travel costs by attending fewer out-of-town meets. To ensure the Club has sufficient resources to host meets, most LAC swim families are required to work a minimum of 22 sessionsduring club hosted meets (please see below for exceptions). These sessions may be worked through officiating or working at the club’s food canteen, awards or other positions. Any unfulfilled session credits will be billed at a rate of $40.00 per session to the swim family’s Swimmer Account at the end of the season. Please note that this is not meant to be a “fundraiser” but rather an incentive to participate in the running of home meets. Swim families may receive up to 5 donated session credits from another club family to complete their credits, however any more than the 5 donated session credits must be approved by the board. Session commitments are waived for first year swim families with no prior competitive swim club affiliation, as well as for introductory and post-secondary students training full time with the club and for varsity swimmers, although assistance during swim meets from these groups is greatly appreciated.  First year families ARE required to fulfill the LAC orientation program. This includes participating in an Introductory to Swimming clinic during the swim season and a follow up “on-deck” mentoring session.

*** Families of Development swimmers who are not in their first year of competitive swimming who do not have a swimmer in another level are required to fulfill only 11 of the assigned session credits.***

*The number of session credits will be reviewed by the board in the fall upon club enrolment and may be subject to change.

There is a session credit FAQ under the "Parent Info" tab under "Session Credits.
