Well...we did it! Lots of super-smart, super-tough, super-fast racing last weekend at the Regional Championships. For the 5th season in a row we came out on top in the overall team scoring. Top 5 teams were:  1)LAC 1153pts. 2)GMAC 1015pts 3)GHAC 962.5pts 4)WAC 733pts 5)CW 721.5pts. Without question the meet was HUGE, and presented many challenges in many different respects. It is these types of circumstances where we see "what we're made of". And we need simply go back to last week's Coaches Report, with a theme centered around the idea that things would likely not be perfect, in fact they would probably be far from perfect, to realize these are the types of circumstances that should make us ALL stronger, and closer, and better. As a team, from swimmers, to coaches, to parent volunteers (in particular our meet management team and all the crew heads, see Mark's list below in the "It's Official" section of the newsletter) we stayed positive and "in the moment" and focused on the task at hand, said "SO WHAT?!" and performed admirably! That's what it's all about! GREAT JOB LAC!

There will be a full re-cap of the meet results, including % of best times, medalists and finalists in the "News" section of the website soon, but special CONGRATULATIONS here and now to first time Provincial Festival qualifiers Isabelle Burton, Haley Murphy, and George Trevor and first time Provincial qualifier Chris Drasovean.

“Thanks!” to Sherwood Forest Tim Horton’s for providing coffee, bagels and pastries for the weekend.

Our raffle was a big success! 587 tickets were sold. Thank you to all the LAC swim families that sold tickets and a special thanks to Craig Forsey for organizing this event.

Swim a Thon will take place the weekend of May 5 & 6 this season. More information to follow in next week’s newsletter.

The January Spiritwear orders have now been placed. If you would like to place an order please print off the form on the LAC website under the "Swimmer Info" tab under the "LAC Swim Equipment" tab. Complete the order form and deposit it in the LAC mailbox at CGAC. Please include the payment with the order (cheques made out to London Aquatic Club). The next order date will be in March.

Statements were emailed yesterday and  PAD payments will be February 15. If you have any concerns please contact Donna at before February 12.

Over 1,100 swimmers, 68 senior officials, at least 50 coaches, 100s of minor officials, canteen crew, set-up/tear-down crew, awards crew, and what felt like 1000s of spectators!  What an event!  What a great job done by everyone!

Congratulations for the second year in a row to Trevor Pool and Martin Troughton on a job exceptionally well done!  It was great working with you again this year.

Thank you to all of the LAC officials who helped at WOSA, you and a large number of visiting officials were critical to the meet’s success.

I don’t have room to mention everyone so I will call out just a few special teams this time:

  1. Craig Forsey puts together our Meet Programs for every meet and creates other signs and graphics as well.  As a meet manager, who had to do that himself, I can tell you that having someone like Craig on the team is a huge blessing.
  2. Jan Tebbutt and the Set-up and Tear-down crew.  It has been a very busy month for them and we had to partially set up WOSA on Thursday night and then finish on Friday morning making the total time much longer than usual.  Thanks a lot crew.  We couldn’t do it without you.
  3. Lisa Levy and the WOSA Canteen crew.  It would be a pretty long meet without the great food that Lisa and the team arrange and provide to the coaches and officials.
  4. Rebecca Shearer and the Minor Officials crew.  The competition coordinator has enough going on with senior officials and the meet in general.  Having a team to handle timers and strokes and turns officials is a major effort that is nice to not have to worry about.
  5. Kip Sang and the awards crew. Thank you for taking care of the awards at all of our LAC hosted meets.

New Level II:  Congratulations and thank you to Sheila Smith on receiving her final sign-off for level 2 on the weekend!

Volunteers Needed: Please note that session credits are only given for LAC Hosted meets, not for helping at another club’s meet. That said, we get a lot of help from other clubs at our meets and it is nice if we maintain the good will by returning the favour, especially if you are there anyway.  All meets are also great opportunities to earn high school volunteer hours.

Western is hosting the OUA Swimming Championship this year.  The meet is on Thursday to Saturday, February 8-10 (OUA championships).  A.M. heats and P.M. finals with the likelihood of a short afternoon time trial on the Saturday.  This was a great meet the last time Western hosted it.  It comes highly recommended!  If you can help at the OUA Champs please contact Paul Cappa (Long Time LAC President) at: or

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at

Club hosted meets help to reduce membership fees by 20-25% as well as reducing travel costs by attending fewer out-of-town meets. To ensure the Club has sufficient resources to host meets, most LAC swim families are required to work a minimum of 22 sessionsduring club hosted meets (please see below for exceptions). These sessions may be worked through officiating or working at the club’s food canteen, awards or other positions. Any unfulfilled session credits will be billed at a rate of $40.00 per session to the swim family’s Swimmer Account at the end of the season. Please note that this is not meant to be a “fundraiser” but rather an incentive to participate in the running of home meets. Swim families may receive up to 5 donated session credits from another club family to complete their credits, however any more than the 5 donated session credits must be approved by the board. Session commitments are waived for first year swim families with no prior competitive swim club affiliation, as well as for introductory and post-secondary students training full time with the club and for varsity swimmers, although assistance during swim meets from these groups is greatly appreciated.  First year families ARE required to fulfill the LAC orientation program. This includes participating in an Introductory to Swimming clinic during the swim season and a follow up “on-deck” mentoring session.

*** Families of Development swimmers who are not in their first year of competitive swimming who do not have a swimmer in another level are required to fulfill only 11 of the assigned session credits.***

There is a session credit FAQ under the "Parent Info" tab under "Session Credits.

Instructions for ordering swim equipment can be found on the LAC website under “Swimmers Info” under the “LAC swim equipment” tab. Also found on the website is the TAS shark card, you will need this card when purchasing Team Aquatic Supplies merchandise at swim meets or in their stores.
