July 15

Congratulations to everyone for some great racing and spirit at the Hauch's always fun to see how much a bell prize can get swimmers extra motivated to go fast! And special congratulations to first time Regional Championship qualifier Renee Hart!

For all but a few of you Hauch signalled the end of the 2017-18 swim year - while you’re enjoying some time away from the pool, make sure you’re cheering for your LAC teammates who remain in their final preparation for some big meets coming up: Maggie at the Canadian Trials in Edmonton this week and the Junior Pan-Pacific Championships in Fiji in late August; Charis at the Canadian Trials; and Carter, Katie, Lauren and David at the Canadian Junior Championships in Winnipeg next week.

Everyone have a safe and happy summer, wear lots of sunscreen, and we look forward to seeing you all in September ready to resume the pursuit of your swimming dreams.

The 2018-19 swim season will commence for all groups the week of September 17, with Senior Gold and Senior Silver starting the week of September 10, and new swimmer try-outs taking place the week of September 10 as well.

July statements will be billed later this week. The statements will contain unworked session credits ($40 per session) and the Meet Entry Fees for June and July. The PAD payments will be processed August 1. If you have any membership concerns, please contact Donna at

This past weekend LAC hosted the 41st Annual Dr. Paul Hauch Invitational Meet at the Thames Park Pool. Despite the weather not cooperating with us a few times over the weekend, we did not let it get in the way of a fun meet! Congratulations to all the swimmers and coaches! Your team spirit, dedication and support of each other is amazing!

I want to thank everyone for all their hard work and commitment to this meet. Without your support for swimming, the swimmers and the community, these meets do not happen. Thank you to the many parents, family members and friends who volunteered their time to help make this meet happen. Whether you were on deck timing, judge of stroke and turns, giving out the awards or bell prizes, or ensuring volunteers were organized to fulfill their roles, your help was greatly appreciated. Thank you to all the senior officials who supported us this weekend in the many roles that it takes to run this meet - we couldn’t have done it without you, your dedication, knowledge and expertise. Thank you to Jan, Lisa and their amazing behind the scenes crew who set everything up for the meet on Friday, Jeremy Burton and Greg Young who were outstanding cooks over the 34 degree heat and powered the very hot BBQ all weekend to keep everyone well fed and then the crew who took everything down at the end of the meet. Trevor Pool for long hours of Costco shopping and bringing the equipment to the meet and helping out with the BBQ for the Hauch Meet and the Sunset Meet. Craig Forsey for all his late nights and long hours of printing all our heat sheets, programs and BBQ menus.

This was my first adventure as Meet Manager and I was very fortunate to have wonderfully supportive people around me who were all very willing to mentor me through this new experience! Special thank you to Mark Lukings, Rose Bloch-Hansen and Donna Moskal for their expertise!

Have a great summer!

Tamara Thompson, Dr. Paul Hauch 41st Annual Invitational Meet Manager

Dr. Paul Hauch Invitational – Thank You!:  It looked pretty grim there for a while but in the end you came through like always! Thank you to everyone who helped on the weekend!  Congratulations to first time Meet Manager Tamara Thompson on a job very well done!  Thank you to all of the Senior Officials, but particularly to those former LAC members and our out of town friends who keep coming out to help maintain the high officiating standards that visiting teams have come to expect at LAC meets.  Thank you to all of the minor officials, the ones who signed up right away and those who didn’t NEED to come out but came out anyway when WE really needed them.

How did that happen? Does anyone wonder how a meet is magically set up when you arrive and gets all put away after the meet is over.  Jan and the set-up crew!  Did anyone enjoy the Burgers and Dogs off the BBQ and wonder who did all of that?  Yep Jan and BBQ pit crew!  I even had some people asking who is that blond lady with all the energy?  Yep the common factor on all of those answers is our very own Jan Tebbutt!  Thanks so much to Jan and her crews!  Excellent job once again!

There are so many people to mention and it is so easy to miss someone.  If you helped it was noticed and it was appreciated! Thank you all so much!

I hope everyone enjoyed this season!  Relax and enjoy the rest of the summer and we’ll see most of you again in the fall!  The Fall Start-up will be here before you know it!

Club hosted meets help to reduce membership fees by 20-25% as well as reducing travel costs by attending fewer out-of-town meets. To ensure the Club has sufficient resources to host meets, most LAC swim families are required to work a minimum of 22 sessionsduring club hosted meets (please see below for exceptions). These sessions may be worked through officiating or working at the club’s food canteen, awards or other positions. Any unfulfilled session credits will be billed at a rate of $40.00 per session to the swim family’s Swimmer Account at the end of the season. Please note that this is not meant to be a “fundraiser” but rather an incentive to participate in the running of home meets. Swim families may receive up to 5 donated session credits from another club family to complete their credits, however any more than the 5 donated session credits must be approved by the board. Session commitments are waived for first year swim families with no prior competitive swim club affiliation, as well as for introductory and post-secondary students training full time with the club and for varsity swimmers, although assistance during swim meets from these groups is greatly appreciated.  First year families ARE required to fulfill the LAC orientation program. This includes participating in an Introductory to Swimming clinic during the swim season and a follow up “on-deck” mentoring session.

*** Families of Development swimmers who are not in their first year of competitive swimming who do not have a swimmer in another level are required to fulfill only 11 of the assigned session credits.***

There is a session credit FAQ under the "Parent Info" tab under "Session Credits.
