COACHES REPORT

Good luck everyone at Regionals this weekend! It's going to be a busy weekend - but not as busy as last year! Do your best to prepare yourself for good swims - stay relaxed, stay confident and stay positive. Most importantly, remember that things will not go perfectly! You will not have a perfect meet. In fact there's no such thing as "the perfect meet". Prepare yourself to the best of your ability based on the circumstances, be your own biggest supporter and best coach, and race with confidence and determination. If you're going to do it, you might as well do it with everything you have. Just as there's no such thing as "the perfect swim meet", it's impossible to swim more than one race at a time. Focus on the next one, not the one behind you, not the one 24 hours away. Relax, stay calm, stay in control, remain flexible, and enjoy yourself. The meets are fun, the challenge is exciting, and the very best is far from perfect. GO LAC GO!

T-shirt rotation: Thursday ROYAL - Friday - ORANGE - Saturday NAVY - Sunday ORANGE (if you don't have a shirt of a certain color, don't worry about it, wear what you have!)

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY

The LAC coaches and Board of Directors want to remind everyone to please please use your best judgment and discretion when it comes to deciding whether or not you are going to brave the weather conditions in an effort to get to either swim practice or competition. Facility closures due to weather conditions will be communicated in as timely a fashion as possible.

IT’S OFFICIAL!

We Need your Help!  Timers and Strokes and Turns Officials are badly needed for Western Region SC Champs this weekend – The Thursday evening distance session and the Sunday afternoon 12 and Under session are both badly in need of officials, especially timers.  We have moved the Thursday session 1 hour later to try to accommodate people who might wish to come after work.  The warm-up starts at 5:00PM and the session at 6:00PM.  The session is about 2.5 hours long ending at about 8:30PM, give or take a few minutes for actual swim times being different than entry times.  The Sunday afternoon session is under 3 hours as well, based on entry times.  We MUST have two timers per lane on every session.  If you have signed up for other sessions, please do NOT move your sign-up from one session to another.  That would just create problems in the original session.  We need some net new sign-ups.  Oh, and please don’t move your sign-up from S&T to Timer either.  Same reason.  Your help would be greatly appreciated!  FYI, you can be a timer prior to taking the clinic.  This is the only officiating job where that is acceptable.  High school students can get volunteer hours for timing, and also get your family a session credit.

Official Registration – As people take clinics, they will need to be registered as an official with Swimming Canada.  We do the initial set up based on the clinic registration information.  When that is done an email will be sent to each newly registered official from systems@swimming.ca  In this email are instructions on how to validate and update your account.  Until you do this we cannot register you as an official.  For the 4th of 5th time, we have tried to register a group of 20 or so officials.  Please check your email and spam folders and follow these instructions.

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at lac.coc@gmail.com

LAC SESSION CREDITS

Club hosted meets help to reduce membership fees by 20-25% as well as reducing travel costs by attending fewer out-of-town meets. To ensure the Club has sufficient resources to host meets, most LAC swim families are required to work a minimum of 22 sessionsduring club hosted meets (please see below for exceptions). These sessions may be worked through officiating or working at the club’s food canteen, awards or other positions. Any unfulfilled session credits will be billed at a rate of $40.00 per session to the swim family’s Swimmer Account at the end of the season. Please note that this is not meant to be a “fundraiser” but rather an incentive to participate in the running of home meets. Swim families may receive up to 5 donated session credits from another club family to complete their credits, however any more than the 5 donated session credits must be approved by the board. Session commitments are waived for first year swim families with no prior competitive swim club affiliation, as well as for introductory and post-secondary students training full time with the club and for varsity swimmers, although assistance during swim meets from these groups is greatly appreciated.  First year families ARE required to fulfill the LAC orientation program. This includes participating in an Introductory to Swimming clinic during the swim season and a follow up “on-deck” mentoring session.

*** Families of Development swimmers who are not in their first year of competitive swimming who do not have a swimmer in another level are required to fulfill only 11 of the assigned session credits.***

*The number of session credits will be reviewed by the board in the fall upon club enrollment and may be subject to change.

The Session Credit Policies are posted under the “Parent Info" tab On the LAC website.
