NEWSLETTER 2018-19 ISSUE 40

WORKOUT CHANGES

This week is our final schedule (July 1-7) for most of our swimmers. There a is separate schedule for Ohio & CJC swimmers who will continue to swim until their meets are complete.

Our 2019-20 Swim season will start Monday September 16. There will be some pre-season training for our Senior Gold/Silver groups in early September. The 2019-2020 Training Schedule will be posted on the website in late July.

COACHES REPORT

CONGRATULATIONS to our 41 swimmers who raced last weekend in Scarborough and Brantford. In Scarborough both Carter Buck and Colin Shearer won provincial titles in the 15 year old boys category, Carter in the 200BK and Colin in the 100FR, while Jack Haycock picked up silver in the 16 year old 200BR. In Brantford we had 3 individual medalists, all in the 100FL, Sonya Demidenok with silver, Sam Cormier and Siporah Sang with bronze. Another 11 swimmers raced in the finals, 8 out of 11 relay teams scored points (5 at OYJC's and 3 at OSC's), and there were 36 personal bests established between the 2 meets among our 41 swimmers, not a great pb conversion rate (26%) but consistent with the overall  performances across all clubs at both meets. Most importantly, under challenging circumstances, when the pb's were proving elusive, our swimmers remained positive, fought for every meter of water and showed great team support.

Sadly we must say good bye to Coach Nick Mitchell, who has been with us since 2015. Nick brought great energy, enthusiasm and knowledge to the pool deck every day, and his contribution to the betterment of our swimmers over the past four years, technically, tactically and psychologically, has been immeasureable. Nick, THANK YOU, and good luck as you embark on your career as an electrical engineer.

Have fun at the Hauch Meet this weekend, please take note of the start time changes, and make sure you wear plenty of sunscreen.

HAUCH MEET – BELL PRIZES

We still need bell prizes for the Hauch Meet is weekend. We would like each family to donate $10 worth of prizes (broken up into smaller prize amounts if possible to spread the prizes out further.) Examples from previous years are $5 gift cards, towels, water bottles and a variety of fun toys for the kids to play with around the pool for the day. You can give your prizes to Jane Callon, Jan Burton or Carrie Harse.

SESSION CREDIT REMINDER

If your family was a member of the club last season or you transferred from another club this season then you are responsible for completing session credits this season, please see the session credit section below for details.

SWIMMER ACCOUNTS

July statements will contain any June/July meet entries and any unworked session credit payments due. They will go out the third week in July. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Donna at lacmembership01@gmail.com.

IT’S OFFICIAL!

Dr. Paul Hauch Invitational (July 6 and 7) Volunteers needed! – Hi everyone!  The sign-ups for Judges of Strokes and Turns, Timekeepers, and various other jobs are now posted.   Please take a look, see what is available and sign up to help.  Even if you have completed your session credits, you can still help at meets.  Looking at the sign-ups now on Monday evening, I can see that we still have openings for  Judges of Strokes and Turns and Timers in all sessions except Saturday morning.  The sessions are short.  This is not a big commitment.  Please sign up and help make this last LAC meet of the season a success.  If you are signed up to be an official, please make sure that you are present for the briefings in the last 30 minutes of the warm-up.  We use a different timing system for this meet.

We also have openings for parking lot attendants.  This job amounts to warning people to park legally, and directing them to alternate parking locations, once the pool lot is full.  This is a pretty easy way to help out.

Season 2019-2020 – Meet Managers!:  The roster of Meet Managers for next season is starting to fill out but we still have some spots available.  This job is a lot easier than it may sound and there are lots of people ready to help you learn.  A bonus is that quite a few session credits can be earned for doing this job.  If you are interested, please let me know ASAP.

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at lac.coc@gmail.com

LAC SESSION CREDITS

Club hosted meets help to reduce membership fees by 20-25% as well as reducing travel costs by attending fewer out-of-town meets. To ensure the Club has sufficient resources to host meets, most LAC swim families are required to work a minimum of 22 sessionsduring club hosted meets (please see below for exceptions). These sessions may be worked through officiating or working at the club’s food canteen, awards or other positions. Any unfulfilled session credits will be billed at a rate of $40.00 per session to the swim family’s Swimmer Account at the end of the season. If a swimmer leaves the club after March 1st then the prorated unworked session credits will be billed to their final statement. Please note that this is not meant to be a “fundraiser” but rather an incentive to participate in the running of home meets. Swim families may receive up to 5 donated session credits from another club family to complete their credits, however any more than the 5 donated session credits must be approved by the board. Session commitments are waived for first year swim families with no prior competitive swim club affiliation, as well as for introductory and post-secondary students training full time with the club and for varsity swimmers, although assistance during swim meets from these groups is greatly appreciated.  First year families ARE required to fulfill the LAC orientation program. This includes participating in an Introductory to Swimming clinic during the swim season and a follow up “on-deck” mentoring session.

*** Families of Development swimmers who are not in their first year of competitive swimming who do not have a swimmer in another level are required to fulfill only 11 of the assigned session credits.***

*The number of session credits will be reviewed by the board in the fall upon club enrollment and may be subject to change.

The Session Credit Policies are posted under the “Parent Info" tab On the LAC website.
