COACHES REPORT

Here are some ideas from Olivier Poirier Leroy (YourSwimBook.com) on how to get your swim season off to a great start:

This time of year is very formative, daunting, and exciting all rolled into one for swimmers. After a summer break it's back into the meat-and-potatoes of training, a clean slate before us, excited and determined to pound out miles of drill and aerobic work, laying the foundation for a fresh set of goals.

With no taper in sight, no championship competition on the near horizon, and nothing but training staring you in the face, autumn can be a little daunting. But it doesn’t have to be. This is the time of year where we are all given a clean start, and a fresh set of opportunities to improve and define ourselves as swimmers. Here are 7 ways for you to get the most from the start of a new season:

1. Get back to the basics.  2. Analyze the season that was.  3. Keep your goals simple...not EASY, but uncomplicated. 4. Start bossing around that part of your swimming you’ve always wanted to improve.  5. Think long-term.  6. Ask your coach for feedback.  7. Decide what kind of swimmer you want to be this year.

IT’S OFFICIAL!

2019/20 Meet Managers – If you have an interest in being a Meet Manager this year, the LAC Pentathlon in April still needs a Meet Manager.  I will probably be the Competition Coordinator for this meet and can also be your mentor to help you learn.  This is a nice simple 1 day meet to learn from and there are people available to help.  If you are willing and available please email me with your interest.  If you want to team up with someone, that is okay too.  Christie Thomas, the Meet Manager for the LAC Hollandia Spring invitational is also interested in having a co-Meet Manager.  This is another great way to learn.  Again, if you have an interest please email me in that regard.  Most of our Meet Managers are level 1 or 2 so do not feel that you are too new.  April and May are a ways off.  You can get the experience as you go!

Clinics – I will be hosting the Introduction to Swimming Officiating, Judge of Strokes and Turns, and the Starter (the person who starts the races) clinics in October, prior to the LAC – Fall Start-up.  Sign-ups will be posted later this month.  The rest of the clinics will happen prior to Nothers in November.

New Rules For 2019/20 – There are a few new rules and protocols related to hosting Safe Competitions.  I will be covering these in upcoming newsletters and they will be covered in the Officials Briefings before each session.  It is going to get interesting!

Official Registrations – New officials are registered after they have taken the Introduction to Swimming Officiating clinic and one other clinic.  WE will register you.  When we register you in the Swim Canada website as an official or when returning officials are reactivated by Swim Canada, you will receive an email from Swim Canada with instructions on how to complete the activation of your account.  Please do not ignore this email.  Follow the instructions to log onto you account, review the information for correctness and then go to the My Info tab and click on SAVE even if nothing was changed.  This is REQUIRED in order for us to activate your account.  It is important to LAC that officials are activated in this way as it affects our ability to host meets.

PIPEDA Forms:  Every official is required to fill out this form EVERY year.  Please go to this link: PIPEDA and print out as many copies as is required for the number of officials in your family.  Each official should read the form and fill it out and it should be signed by the official or their legal guardian, if the official is less than 18.  When all of the forms are filled out, please give them to your swimmer’s coach who will get them to Donna OR you can put them in the LAC mail box at CGAC on the wall to the right as you enter the building.

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at lac.coc@gmail.com

LAC SESSION CREDITS

The Session Credit Policy is posted under the “Parent Info" tab On the LAC website. All returning families and families transferring from another club, please make sure you review the policy and are award of your session credit commitments for the season.
