COACHES REPORT

As we head into the Nothers Invitational this weekend, here are ten behaviours the coaches will be very happy to see on display from LAC athletes:

1) punctuality: 5 minutes early is on time, see the start times below!  2) effective and complete warm-up - check with your coach 3) talking with your coach before and after each race  4) taking something good from each swim, and something to be worked on for the next one, and remembering that the end result, while we strive for it to be our best ever, does not need to be a personal best to be a good swim  5) swimming one race at a time  6) staying calm, confident and positive, and keeping things in perspective, regardless of the outcome  7) staying properly hydrated and fueled throughout the meet, and keeping our team area CLEAN!  8) wearing your LAC bathing cap and LAC t-shirt - Friday = ROYAL, Saturday = ORANGE, Sunday = NAVY  9) demonstrating great sportsmanship ("nice race", or "good job", or a handshake to the swimmer on either side of you at the end of the race)  10) at all times showing respect and gratitude to all volunteer officials (with a sincere "thank you" when and where necessary)

If you are able to demonstrate these behaviours throughout the weekend, the coaches will consider your meet a success. And a polite reminder to all LAC parents, unless you are acting in an official "on-deck" capacity during your child's swim session, you are asked to support your child to the very best of your ability from the upper level viewing gallery! The coaches thank you in advance for your cooperation.

RACE SMART. RACE TOUGH. HAVE FUN. GO LAC GO!

IT’S OFFICIAL!

We Need TIMERS Friday morning and Friday early afternoon – As things were sitting Tuesday morning, the 13 and over and 12 and Under Distance sessions cannot run.  We do not have enough timers.  If you can get out and help, please sign up, especially if you have a swimmer in the session.

Senior Officials – Thank you to everyone volunteering as senior officials at Nothers.  MOST of the positions are filled but there are still a few optional openings available.  Stroke Judges - I do not have Stroke Judges on one end in each of the Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon sessions and no Stroke Judges at all in session 5/6 - 13 and over 50s.  Recorder/Scorer - I also have openings for Recorder/Scorer on Friday in session 1/2 Deep and 3/4 Deep, and in the Sunday Finals.  I can get along without these so if you are already signed up in another position, keep that job please, but if you are available, and qualified, please email me with the time slot and the position.  For Stroke Judges I must add people in pairs so, even if you offer, I MAY not be able to take you, if no one else offers too.

Senior Officials – You Cannot Do Two Jobs At The Same Time – If you had signed up as a minor official while waiting to find out if you got a senior position, and you got a senior position in that same time slot, please remove your minor official sign-up so that we do not get any last minute surprises.

Timer and Strokes and Turns Officials – Thank you for the outstanding response for minor officials.  If you looked earlier and sessions that you were interested in were full, then look again.  A few openings have appeared.

Some Jobs Require Clinics – Just a reminder to everyone, for officials, the only jobs that you can sign-up for without the associated clinic is Timer.  You cannot be a Judge of Strokes and Turns without the Stokes and Turns Clinic and you cannot be a Safety Marshal without the Introduction clinic.

When Signing Up For Any Job – Please put the name of the person who will be doing the job in the Optional Contact Info Box.  We need to know who that is.  The LAC family contact, which shows by default, is not enough.  Also, if the person is new at the job it would be helpful if you put (New) after the person’s name.

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at lac.coc@gmail.com
