Sat Oct 27       Development 1           7:30 – 8:30 am           CHOCC     due to underwater hockey

With Thanksgiving behind us it is now time to get down to some work!  The coaches like to use the "building a house" analogy when it comes to training: the first few weeks were spent on identifying the tools required and getting familiar with them; now we're going to lay the foundation of the house...the bigger and deeper the foundation (the harder you work) the stronger the house (the faster you are likely to swim).  What kind of house are you going to build (asked the big bad wolf?!)

This Friday (Oct.12) from 4:15-5:15pm (HP and Senior) and next Monday (Oct.15) from 4-5pm (Age Group) Craig Hamilton will speak on best nutrition practices for swimmers.  Craig is a certified nutritionist (and strength & conditioning specialist) who worked at the Western University Exercise Nutrition Laboratory.  All swimmers are required to attend, and parents are welcome.  Both talks will be in the Multi-Purpose Room at CGAC.

On Fri Oct 19 from 5:30 - 7:00 pm in the Multi-Purpose Room  at CGAC there will be an information session for parents of all swimmers new to the club.  Coaches and board members will be present to speak on all things LAC and answer any questions you may have.

Once again a Florida March Break Training Camp is being offered for any interested (12 & older) swimmers in the Age Group and Senior programs.  The camp is being planned for the same location as last year (Plantation, near Fort Lauderdale) and the tentative dates are Mar.7-15, 2013.  Stay tuned for details on an information session to further discuss this great opportunity.

Will take place on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the Greek Canadian Club on Sarnia Road. Social starts at 4:30 pm and dinner will be served at 5:00 pm. Our banquet not only recognizes the hard work and achievements of our swimmers from the past season it also introduces and welcomes our newest team members to the club. Please see the “events” section on our website for further details or contact: Cindy Salmon @ or 519-474-3813

***ANNUAL TROPHIES*** Any swimmers who won these in 2011 are asked to return them ASAP to their coach.

***BANQUET PICTURES*** If you have any pictures from last season you would like included in the banquet slide show, please forward them to Kevin Ryan @ If the files are too large for email, please copy them to a disk or USB stick and arrange to deliver them to Kevin by this Friday; alternatively, leave them in the LAC Box @ CGAC and they will be passed on to Kevin.

*** PLEASE CONFIRM YOUR ATTENDANCE*** by Sunday, October 14 2012 - Under Current and Upcoming Events Tab found on the LAC Website The job sign used for officials sign-up will be used to confirm attendance. Please confirm your attendance by clicking event confirmation box and providing the names of family members that will be attending in comment space provided. ***

***SPECIAL DIETARY NEEDS*** Please let Cindy Salmon know the details of any special dietary needs and we will do our best to accommodate you

Sign-up for minor officials will be made available in the next couple of days. The time trial is an excellent chance for people new to strokes and turns to obtain experience in a low pressure situation. The number of spots per family will initially be limited to 1 person per family to give each family a reasonable chance to sign-up.

Personalized Items- I will be at the October Time Trial with Hoodies and warm up suits for swimmers to try on and order. I will also be taking orders for backpacks and towels at this time. These items will be ready in time for Christmas should you be looking for Christmas gifts. This may be the only order for personalized items until the new year so do not miss out!

Practice Equipment- If anyone is in need of a team suit, LAC swim cap or any practice equipment (fins, snorkel, pull buoy, hand paddles, mesh equipment bag) at any time please email Mary Allen at and we can make arrangement for payment and pickup/delivery.

Team Aquatic Supplies- Will be at CGAC on Sunday October 21st during our time trial. They will have a full array of practice suits, caps, goggles etc. This is a great time for your swimmer to try on suits.

These meets take place the weekend of Nov 2 - 4 at the Etobicoke Oylmpium. Age Group Orange swimmers and above are invited to attend. Sign up is now available on the LAC website.

We have a time trial coming up on Sunday October 21.  This will be your first opportunity to start getting those session credits taken care of.  This is also an excellent opportunity for anyone, who has already taken or is willing to take a clinic for a higher level officiating position prior to the meet, to get some experience in a new position at a meet where there is very little pressure.  If anyone would like an opportunity to apprentice in a new officiating role at the time trial please contact Saad Aldin  ASAP and let him know that you are interested.  We are particularly interested in inviting anyone who would like to see what running the electronics console is all about to contact Saad.  He could probably put two people with the person running the equipment for training.  This is the best seat in the house and is easier than using a smart phone or a video game!

On a related note, if anyone is interested in trying the online officials training, but you need more information, I would be happy to help you get started.  The more positions that you are trained in, the easier it is to get officiating jobs at our meets.

I will be arranging live Level I Timers Clinic(s) and Strokes and Turns Clinic(s) prior to the Nothers meet in late November.  If anyone is planning on striving for officiating levels beyond level II this year, teaching credits are required.  If anyone would like a chance to teach a Level I Timers Clinic or a Strokes and Turns Clinic please contact me so that I can slot you in.

We had 6 people representing LAC at the The Western Ontario Swimming Officials Association clinics on Saturday, September 29. Everyone took the PARA officiating clinic so we now have 6 more officials that are ready to help when we have PARA swimmers at our meets. I would like to make a special mention of Junho Ryu. At 16 he was the youngest official at the clinics and had to go out of his way to seek a ride to the event. Way to go Junho!

Lastly, a reminder (if you have not already done so) to please respond to the email that you may have received on about July 8th from Ontario Swimming Officials Associationwith the subject OSOA Membership Renewal. If you received this email, please read it and follow the instructions (click on ‘Please confirm my registration’) to reactivate your Officials account. If you deleted the email then please contact me and I can reactivate your account for you.

Its QSP time again.

We will again be doing the QSP magazine fundraiser. The magazine fundraiser is an excellent way to offset the cost of meet fees by purchasing subscriptions through QSP you normally would purchase anyway on your own. The fundraising portion as a percentage of the subscription price is approximately 35%. Of this amount, 80% is credited to the family swimmer (formerly called travel) account and 20% is retained by the club.

For the current year, we ask families to participate ONLINE. To encourage ONLINE use, the club will only retain 10% of the fundraising amounts for ONLINE orders.

Next year we plan to use the ONLINE method exclusively but for the current year, we are making the ordering by regular forms available. To obtain forms, please contact Stacey Richardson or go Online.

To participate ONLINE, you will need to log in to

The online code for LAC is 17084.

If this is the first time using QSP's ONLINE ordering, you will need to register first.

For those using the regular forms method, please ensure that all cheques are payable to LAC. These orders are due October 21 either at the Time Trial or at the banquet.

If you need order forms, booklets or have questions, please either email Stacey at stacey_487@yahoo.comor see her at the pool.
