CONGRATULATIONS one final time to everyone on a great 2011-12 swim year - the number of awards presented on Sunday at the banquet is proof positive that we are reaching for and achieving excellence at every level.  Special acknowledgment to Aiden Riekenbrauck on joining Joe, Maggie and Jenna as a #1 nationally-ranked LAC'er in 2011-12, in the 12 year old boys 800FR (his 4th place ranking was cited at the banquet); and to Jessica Allen for breaking into the All-Time Top 10 LAC Performers.  If you ever want to see how you are stacking up with swimmers from across Canada, or want to know how fast you have to be to rank in the top 50 nationally in your age category, go to and look for the "TAS Power Rankings" under the Records and Rankings tab.

The banquet serves as our last opportunity to look in the rear-view mirror - now, it's all eyes forward with both hands firmly on the wheel.  The road to excellence can be a bumpy one, because it's always under construction.  As you continue your fall training keep your BIG goals firmly in mind, swim with great technique when you are the most tired, and stay positive!

Finally, never think that you ARE the best, but always believe that you CAN BE the best.

WOW - what great team spirit!  It was wonderful to see so many new young swimmers out at our first Time Trial and fantastic to see our older swimmers "buddy" with the young ones!  Congratulations everyone on great swims!  Thank you all volunteer parents that helped bring this together!  In particular, the electronics committee who came out for several hours Saturday night to set up the office.  Thank you everyone!  You've heard it before, but, "We couldn't do it without YOU!"

There will be a parent information meeting on Thurs Oct 25 at CGAC from 5:30-6:30pm. The training Camp is being offered for any interested (12 & older) swimmers in the Age Group and Senior programs. The camp is being planned for the same location as last year (Plantation, near Fort Lauderdale) and the tentative dates are Mar.7-15, 2013.

These meets take place the weekend of Nov 2 - 4 at the Etobicoke Oylmpium. Age Group Orange swimmers and above are invited to attend. The entry deadline has now passed only the swimmers that have indicated they will be attending will be entered in the meet.

This meet takes place at CHOCC on Sat Nov 3 from 6:30 - 9:00 am. All LAC Development swimmers are invited to attend. Sign up is now available on the LAC website. There will be no other Development workouts that day.

This meet takes place at CGAC the weekend of Nov 23 – 25. All LAC swimmers are invited to attend. Sign up is available on the LAC website under the “events” tab.

This meet will take place in Gatineau, Quebec Dec.14-16, and has been designated as a team travel event, which means that if you wish to compete you will travel and stay with the team for the duration of the event.  All 11&over swimmers in AG Orange and above who qualify are eligible to attend.  The coaches have generated a preliminary list of qualifiers, and this list will be posted after the Harvest/Autumn meet next weekend.  The team will travel by coach bus to Gatineau, departing on the morning of Dec.13, and stay in a Comfort Inn by Choice Hotels on Blvd. la Gappe.  The estimated cost for this event is $350, which includes transportation, hotel and meals.  Last year we travelled to Pointe Claire, Quebec in the same time period and it was a very successful event.

Hello all officials.  Congratulations to everyone for a great time trial on Sunday!  Even at a time trial your professionalism and commitment is impressive!

I have reactivated all OSOA accounts for all parents of swimmers still with LAC for the 2012/13 season.  It is still a good idea to log onto your account at least a couple of times a year to keep it active.  All inactive accounts will be deleted after 1 year of inactivity.  If you have any family or friends that were officiating on behalf of your family then I have not reactivated those accounts since I have no way to confirm their association with current membership.

A quick reminder that all LAC families are required to take the Level I timers clinic.  This can be done online or at a live clinic.

I am planning on presenting monthly clinics this year.  I will start with the Level I Timers Clinic in November (either Friday November 9 from 5:30 to 7:30 at CGAC and Saturday November 10 from 7:30 to 8:30 at CHOC OR November 16 and 17, same times and places).

Following that, I will offer a new clinic each month but because they are level II clinics, I will be only holding the one session on the Friday evening at CGAC from 5:30 to 7:30.  Everyone is welcome to attend these clinics (for the first time or for a refresher) but session credits are only given for the first time that a clinic is taken by an official.  Please check the newsletters to see when these clinics will be held. I am also willing to arrange ad hoc clinics if there is enough demand.

Mark Lukings, L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair

3M Canada gives out 10 volunteer awards annually to employees who do substantial volunteer work for not-for-profit organizations in the community.  Our co-Club Officials Chair Mark (above) was nominated for his time spent officiating, meet managing, maintaining equipment, and as a LAC Board member.  Mark did in fact receive one of the awards, which includes a $500.00 donation to the organization for whom the individual volunteers.  CONGRATULATIONS Mark, and THANK YOU!
