WORKOUT CHANGES

Sat Nov 10            Development 2 and 3       12:15 – 1:15        due to waterpolo meet

COACHES REPORT

A busy past weekend, with half the club racing at the Etobicoke Olympium and our Development groups Time Trial-ing at CHOCC.  There is much to commend on both fronts, with many personal bests achieved aand many events swum for the first time.  Great stroke technique, streamlining, starting and turning, racing smart and tough, and great team spirit were all in evidence.  For those of you who swam in the Autumn & Harvest meets, there are many positives to be taken from the weekend.  While it is always good (and fun) to swim faster than you ever have before, an equally important lesson to learn is that not every swim is going to be a personal best - if you had a result that was a little bit short of what you expected, as long as you take away something good from each swim and something to improve upon (see the areas cited above), it has been a worthwhile experience.  While the foundation has been laid, there is still a lot of construction to come - we will now start to simulate race-type efforts with superior technique as often as possible (with appropriate recovery of course).  There are always things to work on, there will always be another opportunity to improve, and each one of you is on your own path. NEVER BELIEVE YOU ARE THE BEST - ALWAYS BELIEVE YOU CAN BE THE BEST.

For our Development swimmers reports indicate lots of stroke improvements at the Time Trial - the coaches were happy with the visible improvements in the areas of streamlining and turning, keep it up! Thank you to all of the parents who helped as timers and in other areas.

SPECIAL CONGRATULATIONS to: club record-setter Maggie MacNeil in the 11/12 girls 100BK and 100FL; 1st time all-time Top 10 Performer Menley Langham; and the following First Time Qualifiers: Hayden Richardson: Provincials; Alexander Pedda: Provincial Festival and Carter Stuckless: Regionals.

DEVELOPMENT FUN DAY

Monday (November 12th) from 6:30-8:00 pm we are organizing a team bonding event for all the development swimmers! This will take place in the Faculty of Education gymnasium on campus. There will be all sorts of games and fun to be had. Also, we are supporting the London Food Bank so if you could bring in a canned good that would be great. This event is free of charge and is posted on the LAC site for sign up. Please let us know as soon as possible if you can make it. If you have any questions please feel free to email me at jennifer.n.campbell@hotmail.com.

MARCH BREAK TRAINING CAMP

Sign up is now available for the March Break Training Camp in the events section of the LAC website. A deposit for $200 is due by Nov 15 to secure your spot in the camp. The training Camp is being offered for any interested (12 & older) swimmers in the Age Group and Senior programs and will take place in Fort Lauderdale March 7-15, 2013.

SESSION CREDITS

The session credits for the October Time Trial have been updated.  Any questions about the credits can be directed to Cindy Salmon cbsalmon@rogers.com.

NOTHERS INVITATIONAL

This meet takes place at CGAC the weekend of Nov 23 – 25. All LAC swimmers are invited to attend. Swimmer sign up is available on the LAC website under the “events” tab. The deadline for swimmer sign-up is November 6th.

MINOR OFFICIAL & OTHER POSITIONS

Sign up for the upcoming Nothers Invitational will be made available within the next couple of days. The positions for canteen, awards and equipment set-up will be set-up under a separate event.

The sign-up system allows 50 character spaces to include additional information. When you select the "Green sign-up button" to confirm your sign-up, a box will appear that will allow you to enter information. Please include the name of the individual who will be working the swim session.

If you would like to be considered for the Position of Safety Marshall, please include the word safety beside your name as part of the sign-up process (i.e. Tracy(Safety)).  Session credits for Safety Marshall are limited to 4 per family per year unless no one else is available to work. This procedure will allow the minor officials coordinator for the meet, Mary Allen @ marydan@bigbill.ca, to assign the positions fairly in accordance with club policies. A list of people selected for safety marshal by session will be posted prior to the meet.

The Strokes and Turns positions do require that you have taken the Strokes and Turns clinic. If you took the clinic some time ago and would like a refresher and or have not done Strokes and Turns before, you do the on-line clinic prior to Nothers. Being current with the rules is important so that any infractions by a swimmer are called fairly. If it is your first time, please let Mary Allen know and she can ensure you are working beside an experienced person.

The available spots have been listed so that we have 2 timers and S&T qualified person per lane for each session

For canteen questions please contact Carmen Riekenbrauck at Carmen.details@rogers.com

For awards questions please contact Lianne Wong at wong_lianne@hotmail.com

For equipment set-up questions please contact Steve Langham at slangham@rogers.com.

Please note that for approximately the first 48 hours the sign-up is available, the maximum number of positions available per family is 4 for minor officials. This is to allow each family a reasonable sign-up opportunity

CNG HOLIDAY INVITATIONAL

This meet will take place in Gatineau, Quebec Dec.14-16, and has been designated as a team travel event, which means that if you wish to compete you will travel and stay with the team for the duration of the event. All 11&over swimmers in AG Orange and above who qualify are eligible to attend.  A preliminary list of qualifiers has been posted. The team will travel by coach bus to Gatineau, departing on the morning of Dec.13, and stay in a Comfort Inn by Choice Hotels on Blvd. la Gappe. The estimated cost for this event is $350, which includes transportation, hotel and meals. Last year we travelled to Pointe Claire, Quebec in the same time period and it was a very successful event. An important reminder to all swimmers: you will earn your seat on the bus(es) to Gatineau - only if you have prepared to compete at a championship level will you be making the trip.
