COACHES REPORT

Hard to believe our Nothers Invitational is fast approaching, the fall season has flown by and it underlines the importance of being good on a daily basis.  By this point you have all "hard-wired" some training habits that will show up in competition, hopefully good habits like streamlining and dolphin kicking underwater off the wall and stroking before you breathe on the break-outs and finishing every repeat and every set as well as you start it.  There are some who believe that swim meet performance is about "rising to the occasion", when in fact the opposite is true.  When you go to a swim meet your performance is not magically elevated to a new level, instead what happens is you perform at the level of your training leading up to the meet.  Swim meets are not about "rising to the occasion", they are about "falling back on your training."

MARCH BREAK TRAINING CAMP

The sign up deadline is Nov 15 for the March Break Training Camp. A deposit for $200 is also due by Nov 15 to secure your spot in the camp. The training Camp is being offered for any interested (12 & older) swimmers in the Age Group and Senior programs and will take place in Fort Lauderdale March 7-15, 2013 This camp will not take place again until Mar 2015.

NOTHERS INVITATIONAL

This meet takes place at CGAC the weekend of Nov 23 – 25. Only the swimmers that signed up on the LAC website have been entered in the meet.

FOOD CONTRIBUTIONS

We will be doing the food contributions differently for the Nother's meet than we have in the past. An event has been created for the food list and full instructions are provided in the event description. Families not providing the requested food item will be billed for the allotted amount plus an administrative fee of $5.00 on their Swimmer Account. Please note for any families that know ahead of time they will not be able to make a contribution, there is a spot to select that choice at the bottom of the list.

Please contact Carmen Riekenbrauck at Carmen.details@rogers.comfor any questions.

MINOR OFFICIALS

Sign up for the upcoming Nothers Invitational is open.

When you select the "Green sign-up button" to confirm your sign-up, a box will appear that will allow you to enter information. Please include the name of the individual who will be working the swim session.

If you would like to be considered for the Position of Safety Marshall, please include the word safety beside your name as part of the sign-up process (i.e. Tracy(Safety)). Session credits for Safety Marshall are limited to 4 per family per year unless no one else is available to work. This procedure will allow the minor officials coordinator for the meet, Mary Allen @ marydan@bigbill.ca, to assign the positions fairly in accordance with club policies. A list of people selected for safety marshal by session will be posted prior to the meet.

The Strokes and Turns positions do require that you have taken the Strokes and Turns clinic. If you took the clinic some time ago and would like a refresher and or have not done Strokes and Turns before, you should do the on-line clinic prior to Nothers. Being current with the rules is important so that any infractions by a swimmer are called fairly. If it is your first time, please let Mary Allen know and she can ensure you are working beside an experienced person. See under "LAC Officials" below for information on moving up the ladder.

The available spots have been listed so that we have 2 timers and S&T qualified person per lane for each session

For canteen questions please contact Carmen Riekenbrauck at Carmen.details@rogers.com

For awards questions please contact Lianne Wong at wong_lianne@hotmail.com

For equipment set-up questions please contact Steve Langham at slangham@rogers.com.

HOLIDAY TIME TRIAL

This time trial takes place Sat Dec 8 at CGAC, all Development and non-Gatineau swimmers are invited to attend. Sign up is now available on the LAC website under the "events" tab and the entry deadline is Nov 27.

CNG HOLIDAY INVITATIONAL

This meet will take place in Gatineau, Quebec Dec.14-16, and has been designated as a team travel event, which means that if you wish to compete you will travel and stay with the team for the duration of the event. A list of qualified swimmers has been posted in the event on the LAC website and the entry deadline is Nov 22. The estimated cost for this event is $350, which includes transportation, hotel and meals.

LAC OFFICIALS

Wow! What an amazing turnout for the Level I Timers Clinics this past weekend. We have 60 new Level I officials as a result! To everyone who attended, thanks and congratulations on your start with LAC volunteering. Please remember to register with osoa.com so that your completion of the clinic can be finalized and session credits distributed.

We plan to present another clinic in December, and the presenter will probably be Greg Lewis, one of our dedicated level III officials.

For those of you who are interested in climbing the officiating ladder and making your officiating experience much more interesting, you can take the clinics online or in person and you can work more than one position at a meet such as Nothers and accelerate your progress. The level II positions do not need to be done in any particular order and you can be working towards certification in several positions at the same time (although not at a single session!) We have several officials who are certified at Strokes and Turns but have never certified at Timing.

Speaking of Nothers, if you are planning on officiating at this meet, put your Officials Certification Card in your car right now so that you will have it with you at the meet to get your sign-off(s). If you have lost your card or if you forget to bring it, I bring spare cards to the meets. Note that you can only get one sign-off per position per meet, but you can get experience and a sign-off for each of any number of positions that you work. If anyone would like tips on things like ‘How do I sign up for Chief Timer?’, just ask.
