GREAT JOB EVERYONE this past weekend at our Nothers Invitational. A very impressive best times performance rating of 76.7% (890 personal bests from 1159 individual swims); 69 out of 177 swimmers performed a personal best in every single event they swam; 41 swimmers collected 133 individual medals (52G-38S-43B) and 22 relay medals were won (9G-7S-6B); some swimmers earned their Gold Improvement Medallion (300+ seconds improved over the entire year) based on their Nothers improvements alone; some of our Para swimmers experienced their first competitive event; and at Sun nite finals, everyone lived the 'FINISH STRONG" credo, with 57 out of 61 swims being an improvement from the Sunday morning preliminaries. Of the competition check-list that has been presented to you twice now in the "COACHES REPORT" section of the newsletter (once before Harvest/Autumn and again before Nothers) we are quite happy with most areas. Team spirit was good, with almost everyone in "uniform", i.e., team T-shirt and team bathing cap (if you wear one), and lots of cheering; good warm-up habits - doing the entire warm-up as directed by your coach and getting out of the warm-up pool relaxed and ready; pre and post-swim reporting - seeing your coach before and after every swim; eating and drinking properly to ensure a full gas tank and a topped-up oil level; and HAVING FUN - doing your best, learning something from each race, and then moving on to the next one, understanding that you don't have to come first to be a winner, and that a race in which you don't improve your time can still be a good race. The only area where the coaches have some concern is in the area of arriving on time for your session; it's especially important when the relays are at the start of the meet, like they are at Nothers...if you're not there for the start of warm-up your name will probably not be on the relay card. And you will not be properly prepared for your first race, in which you will still be warming up! Please plan to arrive on time, and when you arrive find your coach and say hi...even if you are a bit late; with so many swimmers we need to know that you are present!
CONGRATULATIONS to club record-setters Maggie MacNeil in the 11/12 girls 100FL and 200BK; and Jenna Roman in the 13/14 girls 50FL and 100FL; CONGRATULATIONS also to the following first-time qualifiers: Regionals - Fareed Barakat, Marnie Henry, Tyrus Kalanyos, Derek Micu, Ricky Wang; Provincial Festival - Fareed Barakat; Provincials - Emma Jackson
For a list of medalists from Nothers please see the "WHAT'S NEW" section of the website.
Thank You From The Meet Manager
Congratulations to everyone who volunteered at the Nothers Fall Invitational Swim Meet this past weekend. I had many compliments throughout the weekend and, while I would like to think that I had something to do with this positive response, I know that the success of this event was due to ALL of the efforts of a very effective TEAM of people volunteering their time to make this another great LAC meet. That is, everyone from Canteen, Awards, Program Sales, Pool Setup, Electronics Setup, Minor Officials and the Senior Officials, many of whom are from out of town. Even the LAC family members who were in the crowd and offered a warm smile and a friendly hello to all of our visitors made an important contribution this weekend.
At the risk of missing someone, I want make special mention of the following people:
Everyone who has volunteered their time. LAC families, but also our friends from the visiting clubs who offered to help officiate.
The heads of the various meet committees. Carmen Riekenbrauck, Lianne Wong, Steve Langham, and Mary Allen,
Trouble shooters Saad Aldin, Greg Lewis and Kean Riekenbrauck.
Mark’s meet management mentors, Rose Bloch-Hansen (also office manager extraordinaire), Denise McDonald (Meet Referee), Alison Nell, Sheri and Paul Cappa, and Steve Roman.
Steve Saunders and Bob Hopkins who saved the day during pool set up and tear down by conveniently appearing on scene to help out when they were badly needed.
Our visiting senior officials for giving up yet another weekend to help make one of our meets run smoothly.
The City Aquatic and Facilities Staff for being so helpful all weekend long.
And those people who are always there helping at meets long after they HAVE to. You know who you are . . . and so do we.
Thanks again. I am proud to be a part of the team.
Mark Lukings, Meet Manager, Nothers Fall Invitational
Great job and thank you to all of our LAC officials! Nothers ran extremely well this weekend, and a very important part of that was you!
We have had some people working on progressing in officiating by getting sign-offs for the positions they were working this weekend. That is great to see! One of these people is Junho Ryu who is fully certified as a timer and as a Strokes and Turns official at only 16 years old. Wow!
We have also had a few people register online and take some online clinics. I am very excited to see some activity here as well. We even have the youngest Strokes and Turns official that I know of in 14 year old Lindsey Wong. Way to go Lindsey!
Now, looking way up to the other end of the officiating ladder, I am very pleased to announce that we have a brand new Level 5 official in the club! Saad Aldin was evaluated at Swim International in Brantford a couple of weeks ago and was successful in becoming our first new level 5 official, with an active swimmer still in the club, in quite some time. Congratulations Saad! Well deserved!
Now, for those of you who might be interested in moving on from timing to another position, I am trying to put together a live Strokes and Turns clinic prior to the December Time trial. This would be an excellent opportunity to take the clinic and immediately get your feet wet, so to speak. Do not be afraid. If you can sit in the stands and notice differences in different swimmer`s strokes then you can learn this position. I would like to put an experienced Strokes and Turns official and an apprentice on every lane at the Time Trial if I can get enough interest. Once I have it finalized I will get an email sent out to the membership to let you know when and where.
In the meantime, if there is anything that I can do to help you with the online clinics or just to answer your questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

The backpacks, towels, hoodies and Jackets are all in and ready to be picked up! I will be at CGAC this Friday evening from 4:30-6:00 and Saturday morning from 5:30-8:30.
If you are unable to pick them up during either of these times then please email me to make alternate arrangements. email@example.com
HOLIDAY TIME TRIAL
This time trial takes place Sat Dec 8 at CGAC, all Development and non-Gatineau swimmers are invited to attend. Sign up is now available on the LAC website under the "events" tab and the entry deadline is Nov 27.
Sign-up for minor officials will be made available in the next couple of days. The time trial is an excellent chance for people new to strokes and turns to obtain experience in a low pressure situation. The number of spots per family will initially be limited to 1 person per family to give each family a reasonable chance to sign-up. We would ask that only those families with a child swimming at the time trial sign-up to officiate
