Sat Jan 19 NO LAC workouts due to Swim Meets

On Jan.2 we had a guest speaker talk on how to stay positive, focussed, and energized.  Some of the key points to the group:  1) Every athlete (and person) eventually realizes that the most important muscle is the MIND; 2) Your greatest adversary in life is YOURSELF; 3) Learn to listen to yourself, catch yourself thinking negatively, and say "STOP!", visualizing a big red STOP sign; 4) replace that negative thought with a positive thought or statement to yourself, like "YES I CAN!" or "WHY NOT ME." And finally, "IF YOU DO WHAT YOU'VE ALWAYS DONE, YOU'LL GET WHAT YOU'VE ALWAYS GOT!"

From a coaching standpoint, it is impossible to put a value on the importance of positive people and attitudes in the training environment.  If you want to succeed in sport and in life, surround yourself with positive people.  In the "What's New" section of the website, read the article "Smile When It Hurts" for a real-life example of this truth.

Many of you had some great workouts in the week back after our holiday it's time to maintain and intensify.  Keep up your work ethic and focus at the pool as you return to school and have homework to do and exams to study for.  GO LAC GO!

Tthe 12 and Under Celebration is fast approaching on January 19 and 20. There are only 2 sessions (Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning) but the 13 and over swimmers (and maybe their parents) will be in Milton and so we need help from all the parents of the 12 and Under swimmers to support their meet. To help in this effort I am intending on holding another Level I Timekeepers Clinic and another Level II Strokes and Turns Clinic. I have not yet booked rooms so I cannot tell you the dates but I am aiming for 2 evenings starting at 5:00 or 5:30 P.M. When I have the dates and times I will get an email sent to all members. I will probably do this again before the Hollandia Invitational in the Spring.

The WOSA Short Course Championships are coming up on February 1 to 3. This meet is hosted by the Western Region and will be held in Brantford. If you are planning on attending this meet anyway, they could use your help. If you are available please email John Vallee at for senior positions or the Brantford Minor Officials Coordinator at for Timing and Strokes and Turns positions. Helping beats sitting in the stands every time.
