Newsletter 2012-13 Issue 17

Sat Jan 26    Age Group Orange    1:00 – 2:00 pm CGAC Skills (there will still be am workout)

Congratulations to all of our 12 and Unders who raced this weekend!
Overall we had 77% improvement as a team and 26 athletes who achieved 100% personal best times. The coaches were impressed by the team spirit shown by our swimmers cheering each other on. As a staff we would like to express the importance of wearing our LAC shirts and caps at swim meets, it helps us keep track of our athletes in and out of the water.

Special congratulations to club record-setter Maggie MacNeil, in the girls 11/12 100FL and 200IM; first-time All-Time Top 10 Performer William Stewart (11/12 boys); first-time Provincial Festival qualifiers Leah Polito and James Quigley; and first-time Regional qualifiers Sam Czerkawski, Nicole Fernandes, John Geng, Gino Pak, Michael Quigley, and Annie Willick.

Thank you to all the parents for doing a wonderful job supporting our young swimmers!

On the 13&over front, at the Milton Marlins Invitational and Ontario Cup, there was some good racing after a solid block of training. As you get older and compete more frequently you will come to understand that not every meet is a championship meet, and that every meet should be a stepping stone toward future success.  The theory states that if you can perform within 3% of your personal best times at "in-season", un-rested meets, your chances of success at your championship meet are much improved.  Is this easy? NO -  you can be both physically and mentally tired after a big block of training...but you still need to marshall all of your physical and mental resources to ensure performances that are within striking distance of your pb's.  When you are under fatigue, race smart and race tough, focus only on those things which you can control, and stay positive. Remember, CONSISTENCY IS THE TRADEMARK OF A CHAMPION.

Special acknowledgement to our 10 athletes who participated in the 50FR "Dash for Cash", particularly Jenna Roman for her 5 consecutive wins, and Katelyn Dickey for swimming in the final heat. And congratulations to first-time Junior National qualifier  Elgar Gong.

Thanks one and all for a very successful meet.  The swimmers seemed to have a good time, the coaches seemed happy as did the parents.  You can’t ask for much more than that.

As always, the LAC family of parents, grandparents, children etc., stepped forward to volunteer in a variety of positions.  It is through your volunteering that our children get such a great swim meet experience.

A particular thank you goes to the parents that tried out new volunteer positions at this meet.

Thanks again everyone,

Margaret Marshall,  Meet Manager 12 and Under

Hello Everyone! The 12 and Under Celebration was another great success for LAC in many ways but also from an officiating standpoint. Excellent organization by Margaret Marshall, our meet manager and Alex Vanderkam, our meet referee was met with outstanding officiating at all levels. Thanks to LAC and visiting officials for your usual professionalism. It was especially nice to see lots of people seeking and receiving deck sign-offs for their efforts. That is greatly appreciated and essential to LAC’s ability to continue to host meets.

We will be hosting the Swim Ontario SC Winter Festival on February 23 and 24. To support this I am planning on hosting a Level I Timer Clinic (probably on Saturday, February 16) and a Level II Strokes and Turns Clinic sometime in the week immediately prior to the meet. I will list the dates in the Newsletter and post sign-up pages as soon as the dates and times are confirmed.

There are still a few people who have not registered on after taking the Timer and/or the S&T clinics last fall. If you could please do that it would be greatly appreciated.

Congratulations Ed MacNeil on becoming our newest Level III official!
