This weekend signals the beginning of a very busy 5 weeks for LAC - we have swimmers competing on each of the next 5 weekends: Regional Championships this weekend in Brantford, followed by the SWA Invitational in Tillsonburg, then Eastern Canadians in Montreal, then the 13&Under Festival which we are hosting, and finally the Provincial Age Group Championships and the Newmarket Invitational the first weekend of March. The metaphor often used is that of baking a cake: the ingredients have all been added and mixed, the cake is in the oven, and now you are about to see how it turns out!  It's an exciting time and it can be a "scary" time if you think about it too much.  Trust your training, get your rest, eat and drink properly, and focus on what you can control...which is your own performance.  "NO EXCUSES. NO COMPLAINTS."

GOOD LUCK to all LAC'ers over this competition cycle - you will do yourself and your teammates proud! Please be sure to check the "Upcoming Events" section of our main page for updates relating to the upcoming meets...especially those meets for which team travel is being arranged.

Belated congratulations to first time Regional qualifier BRENDEN NELMS.

Just a few quick announcements this week:

1) If anyone is qualified and interested in working as a Senior Official (i.e. other than Timing and Strokes and Turns) at the Winter Festival please contact Glenn Greig now with your requests at

2) There is a need for Strokes and Turns officials at WOSA in Brantford this weekend. If anyone is qualified and willing to help out they should contact John Vallee at Also WOSA requires that all participating teams provide 2 officials per session. Could anyone who is helping please let me know what sessions you will be working at WOSA Champs?

3) I am planning a Timer Clinic for Friday, February 15 from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. at CGAC.

4) A Strokes and Turns Clinic will be held at CGAC on Thursday, February 21 from 5:30 to 8:00 P.M.

5) The Western Ontario Swimming Officials Association will be holding their Spring Clinic Day on March 23 at the St. Thomas Campus of Fanshawe College. If you prefer live clinics this is an excellent opportunity to hear from some experienced officials. Also, if you want to learn how to be Starter or Referee then you should plan to attend as these clinics are not available on-line. There is a session in the morning and another in the afternoon. Morning snacks and lunch are provided. There is no charge to attend.

A session credit will be given to anyone taking a clinic, for a new position, for the first time, on-line, at a club clinic, or at the regional clinic. Come out to any clinic for the first time, or for a refresher.
