There will be NO LAC workouts during the March Break (Mar 9 - 17)
There was some good racing in Brantford at the Regional Championships. 24 LAC'ers collected a total of 76 individual medals, with 6 relay teams finishing top 3, and another 22 swimmers placed in the top 8. While our best times conversion rate was a bit low at 44%, many of you did an excellent job of remaining positive and focussed, "getting back on the horse" and ready for the next one, and picking up your teammates. Sometimes, it's simply about racing, and not worrying about the time...making your first final, winning a medal, finishing strong to come 7th instead of 8th, making a technical or tactical improvement that will help you down the road, and remembering to NEVER, NEVER, NEVER give up. The message we want to lodge in the minds of swimmers from other teams is: "OH NO...I have to race that London kid again...those guys NEVER take a race off." Winning is good, and the coaches love to see our swimmers winning (Sunday morning tattoo winners!) but we want to remind you that you don't need to place first to be a winner, nor is a good race defined solely by a personal best! Another thought: sometimes (although it's rare) the pool environment can be cool...cold muscles will not perform optimally, so it's important in those circumstances (like in Brantford this weekend) to do whatever you can to retain body heat...warm up and warm down well, dry off before putting on your team uniform, and make sure you have more than just the team T-shirt in your bag. We have awesome orange LAC hoodies that are very warm...I'd love to see everyone in one of those when the circumstances dictate. A toque and shoes and mittens or gloves are great ways to retain body heat - we lose more body heat through our head & hands & feet than anywhere else.
Special congratulations to first-time qualifiers Julia Blaha (Provincial Festival) and William Stewart (Age Group Nationals) and club record-setter Maggie MacNeil in the 11/12 girls 50BK, 50FL and 100FL.
Belated congratulations to first time Regional Qualifier Jack Haycock.
SWA WINTER INVITATIONAL
This meet takes place at the Tillsonburg Community Centre Complex (45 Hardy Ave) Feb 9 & 10. Only swimmers that confirmed their attendance have been entered in the meet.
WINTER FESTIVAL (FEBRUARY 23-24)
Sign up for the upcoming Winter Festival will be made available within the next few days. The positions for canteen, awards and equipment will be set-up under a separate event.
The meet is currently planned to be double-ended. Some sessions may only be single-ended depending on the number of entries received. If this occurs, stroke and turn sign-ups will be guaranteed their position but only the first 16 positions for timing will be guaranteed their position.
The sign-up system allows 50 character spaces to include additional information. When you select the "Green sign-up button" to confirm your sign-up, a box will appear that will allow you to enter information. Please include the name of the individual who will be working the swim session.
If you would like to be considered for the Position of Safety Marshall, please include the word safety beside your name as part of the sign-up process (i.e. Tracy (Safety)). Session credits for Safety Marshall are limited to 4 per family per year unless no one else is available to work. This procedure will allow the minor officials coordinator for the meet, Tracy Hoffman @ firstname.lastname@example.org, to assign the positions fairly in accordance with club policies. A list of people selected for safety marshal by session will be posted prior to the meet.
Please note that for approximately the first 48 hours the sign-up is available, the maximum number of positions available per family is 4 for minor officials. This is to allow each family a reasonable sign-up opportunity.

The Western Ontario Swimming Officials Association will be holding their Spring Clinic Day on March 23 at the St. Thomas Campus of Fanshawe College. If you prefer live clinics this is an excellent opportunity to hear from some experienced officials. Also, if you want to learn how to be Starter or Referee then you should plan to attend as these clinics are not available on-line. There is a session in the morning and another in the afternoon. Morning snacks and lunch are provided. There is no charge to attend.
A session credit will be given to anyone taking a clinic, for a new position, for the first time, on-line, at a club clinic, or at the regional clinic. Come out to any clinic for the first time, or for a refresher.
