Not much to report on this week, other than to underline again the importance of the work you are doing now relative to the performances you are aiming for later on at the championship meets. Many swimmers (wrongly) think that when they get to the critical moment (the meet) they will magically "rise to the occasion". What really happens though is that, in the critical moment (the competition or the game) we fall back on our training. What you are doing in practice is what you are going to do in the meet. It is NOT at the meet where you have the magic moment, it is in practice, day after day after day, pushing yourself to a place that, in the moment, you don't think achievable, but when you do it, you have created a "magic" moment. And you have the memory and the knowledge of all of those past workout moments to "fall back on". The last thing you want to do is go into your "big" meet "hoping" for a great performance - it's about turning practice results into competition reality! GO LAC GO!
REACH FOR THE BEACH RELAY SWIM
On August 26th, 2011, Jason Kloss swam across Lake Huron to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society. To get others involved in the cause and to make the event bigger and better, Jason is organizing a 24 hour relay swim to take place August 16-17th, 2013 in Grand Bend. Visit reachforthebeach.ca for more information
On Friday, April 26th, from 4:15-5pm Jason will be at CGAC to tell us about his solo swim across Lake Huron and to provide us with more information on the Reach for the Beach Relay Swim. All parents and swimmers are invited to attend.
The canteen is looking for volunteers interested in learning how to organize/manage the canteen for LAC hosted swim meets. Please contact Carmen.firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested.
NOTES FROM THE TREASURER
Swimmer Account Statements
Thanks to all the families that have already paid their outstanding balance. if you have not paid the balance outstanding, please try to pay it by this weekend. A reminder that swimmer accounts are payable upon receipt of your statement. As per club policy, amounts not paid with 30 days of receipt of the travel statement can result in swimmers not being able to compete for the club so please pay on a timely basis.
As always, feel free to contact me at email@example.com if you have any questions about the postings on your account. For any questions requiring more than a simple e-mail, please see me at the pool or e-mail me so we can make arrangements to speak over the phone.
I have been asked by a number of people if I will be having another Timekeeper clinic and another Strokes and Turns clinic this year. Yes, I have booked two times:
1) Strokes and Turns - Wednesday, May 1 - 5:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre in the downstairs meeting room.
2) Level 1 Timer Clinic – Saturday, May 4 – 7:00 A.M. to 9:00 A.M. at the Carling Heights Optimist Community Centre.
The Sign-up pages will be posted shortly. I do not plan on having any more clinics for Timekeeper or Strokes and Turns this year so now is your chance. Remember that each LAC family agreed to take the Timer Clinic when you registered your swimmer(s). If these times are not suitable for you then I can arrange another time, if you can get at least 4 people who will attend at your preferred time. I can do the same for any other position, again, if you can get 4 people out who want the same clinic. Other positions include: Chief Timekeeper, Clerk of Course, Chief Finish Judge/Chief Judge Electronics, Recorder/Scorer, and Meet Manager. Starter would require a guest speaker, but that can also be arranged for all of you level II officials out there. Another alternative is to take these clinics online. If you need assistance with that please let me know. Each person taking any clinic for the first time, online or at a live clinic, receives a session credit. People taking Strokes and Turns can be assigned to a mentor at a meet so that they can get experience and help at the same time that they earn another session credit.

HOLLANDIA - MINOR OFFICIAL & OTHER POSITIONS
Sign up for the upcoming Hollandia Spring Invitational will be made available within the next few days. The positions for canteen, awards and equipment will be set-up under a separate event.
The sign-up system allows 50 character spaces to include additional information. When you select the "Green sign-up button" to confirm your sign-up, a box will appear that will allow you to enter information. Please include the name of the individual who will be working the swim session. If you would like to be considered for the Position of Safety Marshall, please include the word safety beside your name as part of the sign-up process (i.e. Tracy(Safety)). Session credits for Safety Marshall are limited to 4 per family per year unless no one else is available to work. This procedure will allow the minor officials coordinator for the meet, Mary Allen @ email@example.com, to assign the positions fairly in accordance with club policies. A list of people selected for safety marshal by session will be posted prior to the meet.
Please note that for approximately the first 48 hours the sign-up is available, the maximum number of positions available per family is 4 for minor officials. This is to allow each family a reasonable sign-up opportunity.
