Our Hollandia performance by the numbers:
899 personal bests out of 1161 swims, for a best times conversion rate of 77.4%. We include first-time performances as personal bests, and congratulations to all of you who swam your first long course races in the 50m pool. We had 86 swimmers who achieved personal bests in 100% of their swims - WOW! As well, 29 LAC'ers won a total of 81 medals, 24 gold, 27 silver, and 30 bronze, while another 37 LAC'ers placed in the top 8. For a list of medalists please see the "WHAT'S NEW" section of the website.
Turn technique is always important, and generally the coaches were happy with our turns at Hollandia, but we need to emphasize that there are 50% fewer turns in the 50m pool than in the 25m pool - what this means is that clean swimming technique and fitness are even more important in the summer season than the winter season. So make sure as we move into the home stretch of the year that you are working harder than ever before on your technique and that your level of effort in your training is at its highest. Another note on turns: whenever you are racing in your home pool (CGAC) you should be "hitting" every turn really well...since you have only done probably thousands of them in this pool! We should never be "out-turned" by swimmers from other teams when we are racing at CGAC! We saw a lot of close races over the course of the weekend and were very happy to observe some very good focus on our finishes, faces staying in the water from the flags to the wall in FR and FL, BK'ers knowing their stroke counts and touching the wall on a good full stroke, and BR'ers finishing with their eyes down and their hips up! In the "FINISH STRONG" department we were solid.
Special CONGRATULATIONS to the following first time qualifiers: Lauren Blaha (Age Group Nationals); Tessa Peerless (Provincial Championships); Cole DeCandido, Mohamed El Tatawy, Melissa Ellig, Madelyn Horner, Neil Huan, Robert King, Bram Majoor, Jorge Mendoza Alvir, Mikel Szabo, and Sydney VanBerkel (WOSA Regional Championships).
Not much time left in the season, some great opportunities on the horizon...we swam well at Hollandia, but there is still much work to be done and better results to be achieved. Let's ALL keep our eyes on the road, our hands on the wheel, and our foot on the gas! And let's all (swimmers, coaches and parents) ALWAYS remember that we're in this together, we're all on the same bus, we need to take pride in each other's successes and provide positive support when the result is less than expected. GO LAC GO!
CONGRATULATIONS to LAC returnee Matt Roman, who was recently named men's swimming Freshman of the Year at the University of Kentucky. Matt scored points for the Wildcats at the South Eastern Conference Championships and maintained a 4.0 GPA.

HOLLANDIA SPRING INVITATIONAL
I would like to thank everyone that was involved with our Hollandia Spring Invitational this year. The meet ran well and the swimmers seemed happy. We had over 700 swimmers at the meet this year and it was because of you that we were able to make it happen.
A special thanks to Glenn Greig and Rose Bloch- Hansen, both of whom make the job of Meet Manager much easier.
Congratulations to all of the officials participating in this past weekend’s Hollandia Invitational. It was another exceptionally well-run event and a big part of that success goes to the officials whose professionalism and attentiveness continue to make our club proud.
Special thanks to Margaret Marshall for her many hours of preparation in the weeks and months leading up to the event and for her three 15 hour days during the meet. It was another job very well done.
Thanks to Glenn Greig, our meet referee, for his expertise in ensuring that our meet was run with consistency and to our usual high standards, and to those out of town officials who continue to give up their weekends to help us with our meets and for "moving up the ladder."
From our own club I want to take a moment to recognize first year LAC parent Fraser Gatt for getting his final sign-off for Level II. Congratulations Fraser! As a first year parent Fraser had no obligation to work any session credits but since he was going to be at his swimmer’s sessions anyway, at home and away, he thought he might as well help out, and since he was doing the work anyway, he might as well get the sign-offs to get a sense of achievement and to help LAC with its obligations to have officials moving up the ladder. It really is that easy. Thanks a lot Fraser! There are some others out there doing the same thing and it is very much appreciated!
