We have spent some time lately talking about the "I knows".  Basically the "I knows"  refer to those things you have done in training, or in the recovery setting away from the pool, that you can take with you to any swim meet, or behind the blocks at any swim meet, to help arm you with the confidence to perform well. "I know I have worked harder on my underwater dolphin kicks than ever before", "I know I have practiced taking 1 stroke before I breathe on every freestyle break-out", "I know I have pushed myself harder on my kick sets than ever before", "I know I have been eating better and getting more rest"...what have you been adding to your list of "I knows" lately? Go to your meet with a long list of "I knows" and you are setting yourself up for success.

We have LAC'ers racing on 2 fronts this coming weekend, at the Age Group International at Etobicoke and at the 13&U Provincial Festival at the University of Toronto. Good luck to all of you.

2013 LC WOSA REGINALS AND STING MEET Jun 7-9 at Western University

With the meets quickly approaching, on behalf of myself and Steve Langham I just wanted to send out a few important details to everyone.  This is our first time hosting at Western, and there are a few items that will be different than what we've become accustomed to at CGAC.

  • Parking:  There is plenty of it at UWO so finding a parking spot will be easy, but it is not managed by the University itself, so it is an unknown for us.   We do expect all gates to be up (no fee for parking) on Saturday and Sunday, but this is not guaranteed.  You should expect to pay for parking if you arrive before 5 pm on Friday.  Most daily lot rates vary between $5 and $6; some are coin operated, while others are attended.  There is a link on our website with more details; please come prepared.
  • Canteen:  The facilities UWO have to offer us are substantially less than what CGAC has, so our canteen crew will be limited in what food they can prepare, and for how many.  We are asking that anyone who is not working back-to-back sessions please not eat the food prepared by the canteen staff between sessions.  We will do our best to have snacks and/or refreshments served on deck during the sessions for all volunteers, but there simply aren't the resources to feed over 100 people as we regularly do at CGAC.  We've concluded that we can prepare enough food for all coaches and only those officials who work consecutive sessions. We appreciate your co-operation with this.  There are a number of places to eat nearby, and there is a snack bar in the Recreation Center itself; I'm in discussions with UWO as to whether they will open it or not.
  • Seating:  Both on deck for the swimmers and in the stands is much more limited than at CGAC; if you want to assure yourself of a seat, plan to arrive early.  Capacity in the viewing area is 260.  However, we do anticipate swimmers will be coming up to the viewing area and it will likely be quite crowded.  When you don't want to watch the swimming, there are large foyers with some bench seating, and there will also be vendors on site selling swim equipment and t-shirts, in addition to walking around the campus itself.  Hopefully theweather will co-operate and you can enjoy some time outside as well.
  • Lockers:  Swimmers may use the lockers available in the change rooms.  They are free, but please do not leave your belongings in any locker, nor keep your lock on overnight.  UWO isdiligent in cutting the locks off lockers they know to be in use temporarily after the facility is closed.
  • Directions:  There is now a link on the LAC website under each meet with directions to UWO.
  • Entry:  The facility will be open for general access each day 1/2 hour before warm-up; senior officials will be allowed entry 15 minutes earlier.

We hope this is the first of many meets at UWO; it is an outstanding facility with a very fast pool and 16 brand new starting blocks now in place.  While they still need to put some final touches on the facility (for example, they don't have a scoreboard yet) what they can offer is first rate.  If there is anything else that comes up before the meet, I will post it in next week's newsletter.  We hope you all enjoy your meet experience at UWO.

Thank you, Greg Lewis, Meet Manager, WOSA 13/O LC Regional Champs

A donation of a $5-10 prize(s) from each swim family will be needed for the Paul Hauch meet bell heat prizes. Please send one in to your coaches or Mimi & Anthony Prier (Dev 2 practises). The sooner the better so we can get organized.
Great prizes include...water bottles, towels, $5 gift cards, summer toys, etc!
Thanks for your support in making this a fun summer meet for all the swimmers!

The LAC AGM will be held on June 19th at 7 pm. Additional details have been posted to the website under the 'Events' tab and sign up is now available.

There are presently two vacant Board positions to be filled at the AGM. If anyone is interested in learning more about the vacant Board positions please contact Paul Cappa at

The sign-up pages for officiating at WOSA Champs and the WOSA Sting meet (June 7 to 9) will be posted soon. It would be appreciated, if you are Strokes and Turns qualified, that you consider signing up for that job before choosing timing. We always seem to be short on Strokes and Turns officials.

A reminder to everyone who has attended a clinic this year that you must be registered with so that the clinic completion can be recorded and so that session credits can be awarded. If you have not yet registered, please do so. I have sent a reminder, with instructions on how to register, to the email account that you used to sign in at the clinic.
