COACHES REPORT

Congratulations to all of our LAC'ers who competed last weekend at Etobicoke (Age Group International) and/or University of Toronto (13&U Festival).  There were some solid results at both meets, with our 11-member Festival squad doing a great job, seeing us finish in 6th position overall, proving once again that "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog, that counts!" The coaches are proud to say that the London Aquatic Club cheer was the loudest on the pool deck and the swimmers did a great job supporting each other, showing a great deal of positive team spirit.

The competition was tough but we fought to bring home the following, with a 70% best times conversion rate:
William Stewart- 2 X Gold, 2 X Silver, 1 X Bronze
Maggie MacNeil- 4 X Gold, 1 X Silver, 1 X Bronze
Jenna Roman- 2 X Gold, 3 X Silver
Jessica Allen- 2 X Bronze
Menley Langham- 1 X Bronze
Ellie Wong- 1 X Gold, 1 X Silver
Lauren Blaha- 1 X Bronze

A special mention to our 13 year old girls relay teams who added to our medal count with 4 podium finishes. The girls finished with 1 X Gold and 3 X Silver, bringing our medal count to 10 Gold, 9 Silver and 6 Bronze!

At AGI, 5 swimmers collected 8 medals, congratulations Jake, Lauren, Nathan, Aitana and Brayden, and we converted 55% of our swims into personal bests, which is respectable given that for most of the squad in attendance this was not a true "championship" event, but more a snapshot of where we are in our training.

Special congratulations to first time Age Group Nationals qualifier David Armstrong.

So, lots of smart, tough racing and lots of team spirit were on display at both meets...let's see that continue this weekend at 13&over Regionals and the Sting Meet at Western University! GO LAC GO!

WARM UP CHANGES FOR WOSA STING MEET

Due to the longer running WOSA 13 and Over Regional preliminary sessions, the warm-up and race start times have changed for both afternoon sessions for the WOSA Sting meet.   The warm-up for the WOSA Sting sessions on Saturday and Sunday will now start at 12:45pm (previously noon) with a race time of 1:30pm.

WOSA REGIONAL AND STING MEETS FOOD DONATION

Due to the logistics operating of the canteen at the Western pool, there will be no food contributions for the meet this week. To ensure fairness among all families, any families who did not contribute food for the Hollandia swim meet this past month will be charged $10 on their next swimmer account.

2013 LC WOSA REGINALS AND STING MEET Jun 7-9 at Western University

With the meets quickly approaching, on behalf of myself and Steve Langham I just wanted to send out a few important details to everyone. This is our first time hosting at Western, and there are a few items that will be different than what we've become accustomed to at CGAC.

  • Parking: There is plenty of it at UWO so finding a parking spot will be easy, but it is not managed by the University itself, so it is an unknown for us. We do expect all gates to be up (no fee for parking) on Saturday and Sunday, but this is not guaranteed. You should expect to pay for parking if you arrive before 5 pm on Friday. Most daily lot rates vary between $5 and $6; some are coin operated, while others are attended. There is a link on our website with more details; please come prepared.
  • Canteen: The facilities UWO have to offer us are substantially less than what CGAC has, so our canteen crew will be limited in what food they can prepare, and for how many. We are asking that anyone who is not working back-to-back sessions please not eat the food prepared by the canteen staff between sessions. We will do our best to have snacks and/or refreshments served on deck during the sessions for all volunteers, but there simply aren't the resources to feed over 100 people as we regularly do at CGAC. We've concluded that we can prepare enough food for all coaches and only those officials who work consecutive sessions. We appreciate your co-operation with this. There are a number of places to eat nearby, and there is a snack bar in the Recreation Center itself; I'm in discussions with UWO as to whether they will open it or not.
  • Seating: Both on deck for the swimmers and in the stands is much more limited than at CGAC; if you want to assure yourself of a seat, plan to arrive early. Capacity in the viewing area is 260. However, we do anticipate swimmers will be coming up to the viewing area and it will likely be quite crowded. When you don't want to watch the swimming, there are large foyers with some bench seating, and there will also be vendors on site selling swim equipment and t-shirts, in addition to walking around the campus itself. Hopefully the weather will co-operate and you can enjoy some time outside as well.
  • Lockers: Swimmers may use the lockers available in the change rooms. They are free, but please do not leave your belongings in any locker, nor keep your lock on overnight. UWO is diligent in cutting the locks off lockers they know to be in use temporarily after the facility is closed.
  • Directions: There is now a link on the LAC website under each meet with directions to UWO.
  • Entry: The facility will be open for general access each day 1/2 hour before warm-up; senior officials will be allowed entry 15 minutes earlier.

We hope this is the first of many meets at UWO; it is an outstanding facility with a very fast pool and 16 brand new starting blocks now in place. While they still need to put some final touches on the facility (for example, they don't have a scoreboard yet) what they can offer is first rate. If there is anything else that comes up before the meet, I will post it in next week's newsletter. We hope you all enjoy your meet experience at UWO.

Thank you, Greg Lewis, Meet Manager, WOSA 13/O LC Regional Champs

PAUL HAUCH INVITATIONAL

A donation of a $5-10 prize(s) from each swim family will be needed for the Paul Hauch meet bell heat prizes. Please send one in to your coaches or Mimi & Anthony Prier (Dev 2 practises). The sooner the better so we can get organized.
Great prizes include...water bottles, towels, $5 gift cards, summer toys, etc!
Thanks for your support in making this a fun summer meet for all the swimmers!

LAC ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The LAC AGM will be held on June 19th at 7 pm. Additional details have been posted to the website under the 'Events' tab and sign up is now available.

OFFICIALS REPORT

We are hosting WOSA LC Regional Championships this weekend at Western’s, still new, 50 metre facility. We are very short on both Timers and Strokes and Turns officials. If you can help out this weekend, and have not already signed up, please contact Mike Joudrey directly at mikejoudrey@lrah.ca

We could also use some help with some of those ‘other’ jobs that are essential to running a meet. Those jobs have just been posted so take a look and sign-up if you can help.

See you at the meet. It should be great!
