COACHES REPORT

CONGRATULATIONS to our 24 swimmers who competed hard in Brantford last weekend at the Provincial Championships. It was a long hot meet and sometimes in these conditions it can seem like a battle for survival, but you were all up to the challenge.  The coaches are particularly proud of the manner in which you warmed up - it is becoming increasingly evident that many of you are becoming very reliable and responsible when it comes to doing what you need to do - this is a CRITICAL piece of the high performance puzzle! Our best times conversion rate was 45%, at first glance not great, but taking into account all factors, including the fact that for some of you there's another (bigger) meet on the horizon and you were not fully rested, for the most part we raced well.  Good execution when fatigued translates into GREAT execution when rested! Congratulations to our medalists Maggie MacNeil (1G-1S-1B), Jenna Roman (1G-1S), and William Stewart (1S) and our other top 8 finalists Jessica Allen, David Armstrong, Nathan Lethbridge, Hayden Richardson, Aitana Robinson, Brandon Ryu, and Sabrina Wang, and to our 13/14 girls medley relay team that placed 4th and 5th in the 200 and 400 relays. Other CONGRATULATIONS as well to club record-setter Jenna Roman in the girls 13/14 100FL, and to first time Age Group Nationals qualifiers Hayden Richardson and Ellie Wong.

Belated CONGRATULATIONS to 2011-12 Team Aquatic Supplies scholarship recipients Josie Andres and Nick Mitchell. TAS awards two $250 bursaries to the highest-scoring male and female swimmers based on FINA points who maintained an 80+ average in high school, and we are proud that Josie and Nick were the Western Region winners!

2013-14 PRACTICE SCHEDULE

The TENTATIVE practice schedule for all groups for next year will be posted to the website under the "Schedules" tab. The 2013-14 schedule does have some changes from this year, and reflects the exciting reality of a fast-growing club. We have re-named some groups, and added a group at the entry level to accommodate the ever-growing demand for our product: top-quality competitive swimming instruction. Please remember that this schedule is subject to change, and also be advised that April 1, 2014 signals the closing of the Canada Games Aquatic Centre for at least 7 months, until Nov.1, 2014. So next year's spring/summer schedule will look dramatically different, and we will all have to be very flexible in terms of training times, spaces, and locations. Information on group placement for next year is being provided by the coaching staff - any questions on the training schedule and/or group placement are to be directed to your current coach.

THANK YOU COACH LINDA!

After 18 years as part of the LAC family, Linda Vanderkam will be taking a leave of absence from her coaching duties. The entire Vanderkam family has been a BIG part of the LAC family since first coming to London in 1995. Brad and Heather both swam with distinction for LAC, while Linda coached and her husband Alex sat on the board and continues to act in many officiating capacities.  Thank you to the entire Vanderkam family for your years of service, and special thanks to Coach Linda for sharing her knowledge, experience and passion with hundreds of young LAC'ers over the years.

LAC OFFICIALS REPORT

The Dr. Paul Hauch Invitational Meet, L.A.C.’s longest running meet, dating back to when we were known as LYAC is coming up this weekend! We are short on officials and we could use your help! If everyone that is qualified, tried to sign up for just one session, we would need to hold the meet several times over! I know that we can count on you to make this final season ending meet another great one for all of our swimmers. The signup deadline has been extended until Wednesday. Come on everyone, enjoy a fun day outdoors while helping us to host another excellent meet. I’m looking forward to seeing you all there!

On the Saturday evening, following the afternoon Hauch session, the annual London Silver Dolphins Sunset Meet will be held at Thames Pool. Warm-up at 5:00, start at 6:00. If you are available to officiate at any level, especially if you are a LSD swimmer’s spouse or child, please sign-up on the LAC website in the Hauch meet sign-up pages.

Just a reminder, if you are a high school student, you can get volunteer credits for working at any swim meet and you can earn your family a session credit if it is a LAC meet. Hauch is the last opportunity to help finish off your family’s session credit obligations (minimum age 14).
