CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who raced last weekend, whether in Pointe Claire or at the Holiday Time Trial. Lots of great swimming across the board, plenty of racing smart and racing tough, and all kinds of team spirit on display. In Pointe Claire, our 39 P2 swimmers placed 5th overall in the team rankings and our P1 team comprised of 37 swimmers placed 8th. Highlights include: 20 individual P2 medals (3G-5S-12B) and 19 P1 medals (2G-10S-7B); 118 P2 and 88 P1 finalists; an improvement rate of almost 72% (316 of 440 swims were personal bests); 19 swimmers who performed 100% personal bests; 1st time qualifiers Nathan Lethbridge (Senior Nationals), Menley Langham (Age Group Nationals), Julia Nalywaiko and Emma Tarrataca (Provincials) and Meagan Fish (Regionals); club records by Jenna Roman in the 13/14 and open 50FL and our 13-14 girls 4x100FR (Maggie,Ellie,Jenna,Menley) and 4x100 Medley relays (Jessica,Menley,Maggie,Jenna); and first time LAC Top 10 performances by David Armstrong and Hayden Richardson.

For a list of our medalists please see the WHAT'S NEW section of the website.

Of course none of this would have been possible without the tireless work of our fantastic team of chaperones, who provided not just outstanding meals and supervision to the athletes but also support and encouragement. A big THANK YOU to Carmen, Mary, Laurie, Jane and Wendi - you guys are AWESOME! And thank you to everyone who provided cookies for the trip, they were delicious and devoured, and made everyone feel like a piece of home was with them. Empty cookie containers are in the multi purpose room at CGAC on a table in the back left corner.

Thanks everyone for making our Holiday Time Trial a success. The set-up/tear-down crew was great, last minute help from Kean with office set-up was much appreciated and Margaret and Stacey had results going like clockwork!  First time starter Paul did a great job. Thanks Greg and Saad for overseeing things and to all timers and strokes & turns officials, some of you "first timers".  It was a great experience for our newer swimmers. Happy holidays everyone!

Sheri Cappa, Meet Manager

This meet takes place at CGAC and is for all LAC 12 & under swimmers. It is an excellent opportunity for our youngest swimmers to race. Sign up is available under the “events” tab on the LAC website.

This meet takes place at the Milton Sports Centre and all LAC 13 & overs are invited to attend. There are two sessions on Saturday and one session on Sunday. Team travel by bus will be available if there is sufficient interest. The bus will leave CGAC at 5:30am on both Sat and Sun, returning to CGAC at 9:30pm on Sat and 2pm on Sun. Saturday will include team lunch and possibly movie between the morning and evening sessions. Sign up is available under the “events” tab on the LAC website - please indicate if your swimmer requires team travel.

ONTARIO CUP - University of Toronto

Those Senior swimmers with at least one 16-17 Ontario Provincial time are eligible to attend this meet. We will be swimming on the Saturday only, January 18. Warm-up is at 1pm, and the session is scheduled to finish at 6pm. Those attending Ontario Cup will also be entered in the Sun morning session of the Milton meet (7:30am w-up).

The Intro to Para Swimming program has been opening the world of competitive swimming to children and teens with a disability for the past few seasons. The program is open to anyone regardless of experience (when necessary and possible, in water assistance is provided). The ultimate goal of the program is to help swimmers with a disability build their skills and confidence to a level at which they feel comfortable moving into an integrated competitive swimming program. It is with great pride that we have had 4 swimmers move on to other training groups within LAC.
The next session of the program begins January 10, 2014. If you know of anyone who may be interested in improving their swimming skills and having a good time doing it, please invite them to email for more information.

Thank you to Sheri Cappa, Meet Manager, and Greg Lewis, Meet Referee, and all of the other officials and volunteers for a successful Holiday Time Trial.

We are pleased  to announce that on December 8, at the SWA Mustang Invitational, second year LAC parent Fraser Gatt, received his final sign-off for the Starter position and is now a certified Level III official. Congratulations Fraser!  It is important for the ongoing success of the club to have parents moving up the officiating ladder.

We are still in need of more level IIs and IIIs to qualify to host meets. Just a reminder to parents that  if you are working at the meets anyway please do ask for sign-offs on your card. If you are seeking a new challenge beyond timing, please consider taking the online clinics for the other Level II positions. Also, remember that all clinics taken for the first time, online or at a live clinic, earn a session credit.

The 12 and Under Celebration is on January 18 and 19.  A Timer’s Clinic is being offered on Friday January 10 at CGAC in the upstairs meeting room from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. A  Strokes and Turns Clinic will be held on Saturday January 11 from 11:30 to 2:00 PM at CGAC, also in the upstairs meeting room. Sign-ups will be posted soon.

Registering for officiating positions, other than for timing and for strokes and turns, is now done from your OSOA account, rather than emailing the Meet Referee. Just sign-in. Along the top are several tabs. Select the MEETS tab and then select Register For Meet from the menu. From there you will be able to see all meets that are open for sign-up in Ontario, defaulting to the meets in the Western region. Click on Select a Session for the meet that you are interested in and go from there. To select a position you must have taken the clinic for that position.

If anyone has any questions or concerns about anything officiating related, please do not hesitate to contact me.
