COACHES REPORT

GREAT SWIMMING by everyone at Regionals in Windsor last weekend! Over 300 personal bests and a 60% best time conversion rate, with 16 swimmers achieving 100% best times, led by Madison Boon at 10/10 and Leah Polito at 9/9!! As a club we finished 2nd overall behind the Windsor Essex Swim Team (WEST). 22 LAC swimmers collected a total of 73 individual medals (29 gold, 24 silver, and 20 bronze), another 23 swimmers finished in the top 10, and 5 LAC relay teams finished in the top 3. For a complete list of medalists see the "What's New" section of the website. Special congratulations to first time qualifiers Sam Cormier (Provincials), Katelyn Dickey and Mykaela Springer (Eastern Canadians and Provincials) and first time Top 10 LAC Performer Ellie Wong.
It was a busy meet, a VERY busy meet for some of you, racing up to 4 times in one finals session, others of you racing 2 or 3 events per session and relays. Good, thorough preparation is essential when you are racing that much, and many of you did an excellent job with it, warming up and warming down properly, staying warm and dry when you weren't in the water, and re-fuelling carefully and consistently. I was particularly proud to have a coach from another club tell me how impressed they were by our uniform coordination, wearing the same color T-shirt, and a different one each day. Finally, regardless of how your meet went, it's important to remember that success and failure are the same, in the sense that they are both stepping stones, NOT stopping points. Still lots more work to do and lots more racing opportunities on the near and far horizon...know where you're going, keep your eyes on the road ahead and your hands firmly on the wheel, stay positive, and DREAM BIG. "If your dreams don't scare you, they're probably not big enough!" GO LAC GO!

OFFICIALS REPORT

This is a reminder to all LAC officials who have not yet registered with OSOA, especially those who have taken a clinic this year. The Ontario Swimming Officials Association is moving towards requiring all officials working at a meet to register with OSOA.CA. To be proactive in that regard, if you have taken a clinic or plan on working at a meet in any officiating capacity, from timer on up, could you please register with OSOA.CA, if you have not already done so. To do this, go to https://www.swimmingofficials.com/registration/Account/Login.aspx and click on Register Now. Fill in the required information and continue until complete. It is very intuitive. Note that your region is Western and your club is London Aquatic Club. If you have any trouble with this or if you do not recall if you have already registered then please email me for assistance. Thank you to everyone who has already registered!

You may have noticed that there will be a time trial during the Provincial Age Group Champs that we are hosting. This is a good opportunity to take a clinic for a new position and try it at a LAC only event. If you are interested and willing to take the online clinic prior to the meet let me know and I will slot you in. You should have taken your stokes and turns clinic prior to trying higher positions and you should be level II to try starter. Referee has already been assigned.

We are hoping to have a new timing system in use for Provincials. There are a few small differences between ARES and Quantum but we would like to get as many people as possible who are familiar with ARES a try on Quantum as soon as we can. We will also want to train new people. It is a relatively easy job with a great view of the pool. If you are interested please sign up for this position at the meet on your OSOA account. If you have never operated ARES then please indicate that you are totally green so that you get a mentor. You can do this at any level. It was the first officiating job that I did!

The Western Region clinic day will be held on Saturday, March 22 at the St. Thomas Campus of Fanshawe College. The morning clinics will include Referee, Recorder/Scorer, Strokes and Turns, and Chief Finish Judge/Chief Judge Electronics. The afternoon clinics will be Starter, Meet Manager, Clerk Of Course, and Chief Timekeeper. This a great opportunity to attend live clinics for those positions that are presented less often. Morning refreshments and lunch are provided and there is no charge for any of this. Mark your calendars. You can register on your OSOA.CA account. Email me if you have trouble doing this.

If anyone has any questions about anything officiating related, please do not hesitate to contact me.
