CONGRATULATIONS to our swimmers who competed in Windsor at Eastern Canadians and in Brantford at the 13&Under Festival. At the Festival William Stewart collected 5 gold and 1 bronze medal, while Leah Polito won a gold, a silver and a bronze, and David Hickey won bronze in his first meet as a 13 year old. Also, both James Quigley and Sasha Goodreau swam to 100% personal bests. Overall our eleven swimmers improved their placings in 64% of their swims, which is very good. In Windsor, our 14 swimmer contingent finished 16th out of 107 clubs. Jake Armstrong won 2 gold medals in breaststroke, Brayden Salmon won gold and bronze, the men's 4x100 Medley Relay won gold, with David Armstrong, Jake Armstrong, Brayden Salmon and Nathan Lethbridge standing atop the podium, while 9 other swimmers swam in the finals, gaining valuable experience at this level. We also established 9 club records - congratulations to Maggie MacNeil and Aitana Robinson (3 records each), Jake Armstrong (2) and Josie Andres (1). Many thanks to our Easterns chaperone Laurie Bruvall.

PROVINCIALS FEB 27- MAR.2
This meet takes place at CGAC. Good luck to all LAC swimmers entered in the meet.
We will have some out of town support for minor officials but we are still short on people for the preliminary sessions (especially on Thursday and Friday) so even if you could find it in your schedule to work just one of those sessions, a club of our size should quickly fill the remaining positions. Your assistance is appreciated. Remember that sessions worked by friends and family count towards the session credit requirement.
LAC Receives Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant
We were fortunate to receive a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to help fund the cost of new timing equipment and touch pads. Many thanks to Steve Roman for preparing and delivering the successful grant proposal. Our current equipment is fairly old and the new equipment will allow us to solidify our reputation as one of the top meet hosts in Ontario. The new Quantum equipment arrived earlier this month and we will be using it at the upcoming Age Group Provincial Championships Feb 27 - Mar 2.
As you can appreciate, it is very important to ensure the equipment is in good working order prior to the meet, so we plan to test it during our regular LAC swim practice on Saturday February 22nd from 5:30-8:30am. We are looking for parents who wouldn't mind volunteering for short intervals during that period to help us (perhaps when your child is practicing), mostly to depress plungers and work the watches during simulated heats. This is a very informal testing 'session', (i.e. there is no official 'sign-up'). White clothing is not required, just your time for an hour or so would be much appreciated. We are strongly encouraging anyone with ARES experience to attend, since this will be an excellent (and the only) time we will be able to gain valuable experience on the Quantum system before Provincials. Please contact me directly at email@example.com if you are an ARES operator looking to gain some experience on the Quantum.
Thanks very much.
Greg Lewis, AG Champs Meet Manager
Child Fitness Tax Credit Receipts
Child Fitness Tax Credit Receipts were e-mailed to parents on Monday. Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have not received your receipt.
Please note that only those swimmers born in 1997 or younger are eligible
NEWMARKET INVITATIONAL Mar 1 – 2
This meet takes place at the Magna Centre, 800 Mulock Dr, Newmarket. The team travel bus will depart from CGAC on Fri.Feb.28 at 4 pm, and will return at 10 pm on Sun.Mar.2. Approximate cost for transportation, hotel, and meals will be $250 per swimmer, please place your deposit cheque in the CGAC box by the end of the week.
LATE SEASON TIME TRIAL Mar 2
This meet has been added to the meet calendar as a last short course racing opportunity for our Development and Introductory swimmers before the March Break. It takes place at CGAC. The warm up is at 12:30 pm.
The Provincial Age Group Champs and the Late Winter Time Trial are next week and there are still lots of Timer and Strokes and Turns positions available for sign-up. It would be very helpful when you sign up for Strokes and Turns, if you could do so on the LAC web site as well using your OSOA account.
We have a need to get people trained on the new Quantum timing system. If you can operate a smart phone, you can do this job. If interested, sign up for Electronics Operator using your OSOA account or contact me and I can arrange for you to be trained during Provincials or the Time Trial and you get a session credit for this just like any other job.
We have a few of our Meet Managers who are ‘graduating’ this year, along with their swimmers, and to be able to host meets next year we need to start lining up and training a new generation of Meet Managers. This is not a difficult job but it does involve some organizing skills, you have to be at all sessions of the meet, and there is some truly volunteer work prior to the meet. This is a job that could be done by two people if a team approach interests you. Margaret Marshall and I will be organizing a Meet Manager Introduction and Clinic in March. If anyone is interested in learning more about this important and rewarding job, please let me know. There is no commitment involved in learning more and mentors would be available.
The Western Region clinic day will be held on Saturday, March 22 at the St. Thomas Campus of Fanshawe College. The morning clinics will include Referee, Recorder/Scorer, Strokes and Turns, and Chief Finish Judge/Chief Judge Electronics. The afternoon clinics will be Starter, Meet Manager, Clerk Of Course, and Chief Timekeeper. This is a great opportunity to attend live clinics for those positions that are presented less often. Morning refreshments and lunch are provided and there is no charge for any of this. Mark your calendars. You can register on your OSOA.CA account or you can just show up but keep in mind that they have to plan for the right amount of food.
If anyone has any questions about anything officiating related, please do not hesitate to contact me.
