The NKB Coaching Staff is full of people passionate about the sport of swimming and the development of our swimmers as both individuals and athletes.  Their collective experience as swimmers themselves, experience as coaches and professionals, as well as the certifications they hold and professional development they continue to pursue are at the core of what enables NKB to reach elite levels of success.

Scott Faithfull
Head Coach
Performance Elite Coach

Scott is returning as the head coach, has been with NKB since 2000 and brings over 30 years coaching experience to the pool, including successful stints as Head Coach of Perth Stingrays and at Oakville Aquatic club.  As a coach, he has received numerous awards and honours including CSCTA’s Domestic Excellence Award multiple times, Age Group Coach of the Year, coaching Provincial, Canadian, and International all-star tour teams, and Head Coach of Ontario’s Summer Games Team.   His extensive national and international coaching experience includes work with many of the faces you see, past and present, on the Olympic circuit, including recent Hall of Fame inductee and former Canadian record holder Mike Brown. As a swimmer, he was a Canadian record holder himself, so the swimmers of NKB are sure to benefit from his talents and understanding of what it takes as a dedicated individual and hard working athlete to reach your goals.

Heather Page Fairley
Head Age Group Coach
Performance Coach

Heather came to NKB from the USA, where she had a long and successful career in competitive swimming.  She is returning as the Head Age Group Coach again this year, as well as the Program Coordinator for our Junior Barracudas program.  She joined NKB in 2010, following her work as an award winning teacher in Boston Public Schools.  She brings over two decades of coaching experience to the pool, during which time she has coached novice swimmers through to some of the top ranked young Canadian athletes.  She has also been named Ontario Coach of the Year and earned CSCTA’s Domestic Excellence Award on multiple occasions.  She shares her love of the sport of swimming with her swimmers and is committed to helping all swimmers succeed, in and out of the pool, through her emphasis on technique development, character development, and positive, strong work ethics.

Katie Breault
Youth Green (Two) Coach

NKB has had the privilege of watching Katie grow the entire length of her swimming career, starting from day one in our Youth programs all the way through her days competing at university and onto coaching, and they couldn’t be more proud to have her on the competitive coaching staff this season.  Following a successful time at NKB, which included being a finalist at the Olympic Trials, Katie competed at the University of Connecticut, a Division 1 school where she is also a team record holder in the 100 FLY.  She is a versatile swimmer and her specialities included the IM events, so she fully understands the value of training all four strokes… even when they are far from a favourite!  Away from the pool, Katie is pursuing her Masters of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Sport and Exercise Psychology.  She can also be found working at her family restaurant just around the corner from the Sportsplex.  Katie is a well-rounded, dedicated team player who is sure to support the all around development of our athletes as well!

Mike Broadway
Youth Green (One) Coach

For Mike, swimming has always been a family affair.  His swimming career started at Pointe Claire Swim Club where he and his sisters were no strangers to owning the podiums as swimmers, with Mike being a regular fixture at Canadian National events in the ‘70s and ‘80s.  While swimming, he met his wife Gigi who was a national level swimmer herself, and is arguably one of NKB’s (and their son’s ) loudest and proudest fans.    After he hung up his goggles, Mike went on to be a coach, including time as the collegiate head coach at John Abbott college and a swim coach for the Pointe Claire Modern Pentathlon team.  Like his father, he has also been extremely involved in the world of officiating and has been integral in shaping some of the policies common in our sport today.  If you’ve been to an NKB meet in the past 10 years, we’re sure you’ve seen him.  This year, however, he is happy to be once again trading in his official’s whites for a coaching shirt, and we are glad to welcome him to Youth Green!

Ryan Cockell
Senior Green Coach

Ryan is no stranger to elite performance, as both an athlete and a coach!  He is a long time NKB Alum who returned to Ottawa from University of Calgary, where he continued his swimming career and studied Kinesiology. He regularly earned top podium finishes, posted club and school records, and ranked Top 10 in Canada.  Ryan leads by example in the water and on the deck, showing a strong commitment to swimming (and he comes by it honestly – many of you may recognize his father from the years he has committed to volunteering and officiating for our sport as well!).  Ryan is a certified coach who is constantly expanding his knowledge base, whether it be swimming related professional development, expanding his technological prowess working for Apple, or developing his mechanical craft with Subaru cars.  From his personal 2016 Olympic Trials Finalist performance, and then repeated years of equally exciting successes of swimmers he’s coached through the Age Group Program, we look forward to all he has in store for another season, this time as the coach of Senior Green.

Kristin Dalkowski
Assistant Coach - Youth Program

Kristin may be new to the NKB competitive coaching staff, but she most certainly is not new to swimming, NKB, or coaching.  This season, Kristin will be assisting our Youth Green group as well as coaching and supervising in our Junior Barracudas programming. Kristin is no stranger to the pool - she was a competitive swimmer for six years before moving onto water polo where she continued to explore her love of water sports. Kristin is a certified swim instructor who has worked with several organizations, and is continuing to further her NCCP coach certification as she expands her knowledge of competitive swimming.. When Kristin is not on deck, she can be found enjoying time outdoors, often skiing in the winter and swimming in the summer. Kristin is excited to join our NKB team this year and to help our young Barracudas develop their skills to achieve their full potential  all while sharing her passion for swimming.

Ben Ethier
Strength and Conditioning Coach
Assistant Swim Coach to all Programming

This jack of all trades joined NKB in 2012, and Ben is still wearing his many caps (well!).  He continues as the strength and conditioning coach, as well as continues his work assisting poolside and as Assistant Coordinator in our Junior Barracudas program.  Ben brings his passion for coaching and working with young athletes to the NKB family from his experience with other aquatic clubs, including Perth Stingrays and dive clubs in the Ottawa area.  He has numerous certifications and vast experience across athletics, and he will be continuing to use his skill set to build our dryland and weight room programs.

Melissa Haick
Youth White Coach

Melissa recently relocated to Ottawa from Oakville, Ontario and NKB is excited to welcome her as both the Youth White Coach and a supervisor in our Junior Barracudas program! She was a competitive swimmer for 12 years and earned her NCCP coaching certification after she retired from competition to stay connected to the sport that she loves. Her formal education includes a BA in Psychology as well as a diploma in Occupational Therapy/Physiotherapy Assistant. She loves adventure, which has taken her around the world, including living and working for four years in Australia and South Korea. Melissa is excited to incorporate her experiences and passion for swimming to her role as a coach with NKB!

Aleasha Knight
Youth Black Coach
Youth Kanata Coach

NKB is thrilled to welcome back Aleasha and all the energy and excitement she has for swimming!  As an Age Group and Senior athlete, Aleasha could regularly be found volunteering her time at team events, drumming up excitement for our mini but Mighty Barracudas, or right at the heart of the loudest group of Barracudas, cheering on teammates with an infectious energy.  This NKB alum has now graduated from University of Maryland Baltimore Campus, an NCAA Division I school where she specialized in the backstroke events and lead her team to three conference titles.  She is finishing up her teacher’s certification degree and  when not poolside she can be found “kidside” at a local elementary school.  She has a passion for physical and mental health of youth as well as accessibility in the sport of swimming.  Combining her experience with youth and her knowledge of swimming with the commitment she holds towards these passions, we’re sure success will follow for all our athletes.  NKB is proud to welcome this cat-loving, NFL fan to the coaching staff!

Barb Moffitt
Senior Black Coach

Barb is excited to be back with NKB and NKB is excited to have her back! This year, she will be coaching Senior Black . Barb is an NCCP certified who has years of coaching experience ranging from the most novice "rookies" to helping "veterans" move onto the national level. As an Early Childhood Educator as well, Barb enjoys combining her skills with early learning and the swimmer's love of the water. She can always be found bringing her personal touch into her coaching, and we are lucky to have this creative lady bring her artistic talents to our club as well. (Be sure to check out some of the lettering and shirt designs she has done!) Her understanding of the spectrum of swimming and development across the years will be a great benefit to all the athletes she coaches, and to their families as well! Being a swim mom of three Barracudas herself, she knows what it takes as a swimmer and as a family to help foster our growing athletes' success - she is passionate about coaching and enjoys helping swimmers achieve their goals

Morgan Seabrook
Youth White Coach

Morgan is another familiar face at NKB who will be coaching Youth White this season.  He started in the pool with NKB in 2005 and in switching from competing to coaching he continues to share his passion with the youngest of NKB swimmers. He was previously a Junior Barracuda instructor and supervisor, and is an NCCP certified FUNdamentals coach, so he’s no stranger to what it takes for swimmers to be successful and to enjoy the journey from novice to veteran! Morgan has now coached with NKB for 6 years, focusing on the swimmer’s development to increase their love of the water and help reach their goals.  Away from the pool, he is a graduate of Algonquin College and is working as a Registered Massage Therapist, but can often be found waterside enjoying a swim or water skiing, for which he is also an NCCP certified coach.  He has raised the bar in our youth programming over the years, and we are looking forward to how he helps our youngest Barracudas achieve their goals in the year to come.

Jackson Slaunwhite
Assistant Coach - Senior Program

NKB is ecstatic to be welcoming Jackson into the role of Assistant Coach in our Senior programming.  Many of you may recognize his familiar face, having been a coach and supervisor in our Junior Barracudas program for the past five seasons, where you will also continue to see him this season as well.  Prior to becoming a coach, Jackson was a competitive swimmer with a colourful career that included representing Team Nova Scotia at Canada Games so he’s no stranger to the strong work ethic needed to be successful!  Away from the pool deck, Jackson is working on both furthering his NCCP coaching certification as well as studying Medical Radiation Technology at Algonquin - it’s clear he is committed to putting in the hard work needed to be successful!  We are looking forward to him supporting our Senior athletes as they dig deep and work hard towards their goals, too.
