Rapids Swim School

Description of Swim Groups

Level 1
This program is the first step in the development of a young swimmer. Basic skills include introductions to streamlining,freestyle, backstroke, dolphin kick, and starts and turns.
 
Prerequisites:
• Red Cross Swim Kids 4 completed or assessed by Rapids coach
 
Level 2
This program is the second step in the development of a young swimmer. Streamlining, freestyle, and backstroke are continued, along with breaststroke development, basics of turns, and standing dives.
 
Prerequisites:
• Successful completion of RRSS level 1 or assessed by Rapids coach
 
Level 3
This program is the third step in the development of a young swimmer. Skills from the previous levels are developed
further, and the addition of butterfly and more advanced starting and turning skills increase the challenge.
 
Prerequisites:
• Successful completion of level 2 or assessed by Rapids coach
 
Level 4
This program is the fourth step in the development of a young swimmer. Full strokes of butterfly, breaststroke, backstroke,and freestyle are developed, along with turns, underwaters, finishes, starts, and back starts.
 
Prerequisites:
• Successful completion of level 3 or assessed by Rapids coach
 
Level 5
This program is the fifth step in the development of a young swimmer. All previous skills are developed further, along with the legal requirements necessary to participate in a regional-level meet. Level 5 children will be participating in Pass Meets throughout the season.
Prerequisites:
• Successful completion of level 4 or assessed by Rapids coach

Rapids Swim School Graduates
 
After a swimmer progresses through the Swim School levels he/she will be encouraged to join the club’s Age Group Development, Regional Development or Youth Fitness programs as appropriate.
