Pre-Competitive Stream

Description (Designed for ages 6 and over)
This group is designed for swimmers comming from swim lessons around a Red Cross Level 5-8.  This group is at the FUNdamental Stage in the Long Term Athlete Development model (LTAD).  Swimmers will work on front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke.  Swimmers will also get a basic introduction to Butterfly, Dives and Flip Turns.

Surrey Sport and Leisure Complex (SSLC)**

GLFD Mon/Weds 4:45-6:00pm Guildford Aquatic Centre (GLFD)
  • 50 metres of freestyle (front crawl) and backstroke unassisted 
  • Tread Water for 30 seconds 
  • At ease or comfortable in deep water
  • Have Fun! 
  • Learn the basic technique of all 4 competitive strokes 
  •  Learn how to legally perform all 4 kicks 
  • Introduce basic dive starts, flip turns and open turns 
  • Swim 100 IM
  • Establish regular attendance habits 
  • Understand how to swim in a lane properly (lane etiquette)
  • Introduction on how to use a pace clock
  • Establish the habit of swimming with goggles and a swim cap (if they have long hair)
Swimmer Expectations 
  • Strive to attend all workouts 
  • Arrive 5 minutes before practice starts so you can start on time 
  • Bring a water bottle to every workout 
  • Start learning to wear goggles and a swim cap in workout
  • Participate in at least 1 mini-meet and other club events or functions 
  • Treat others with respect and care 
  • Have a positive attitude  
  • Adhere to Athlete Code of Conduct 
Parent Expectations 
  • Arrange to get your swimmer to practices and events on time
  • Watch workout from the viewing gallery unless instructed by coaches due to bahavioural issues
  • Contact your coach if your swimmer is going to miss workout  
  • Contact your coach directly if you have any concerns regarding your swimmer and their training 
  • Stay up-to-date with club news via hand-outs, emails, website, bulletin boards and/or communication with coaches and the board 
  • Ensure all fees are paid on time and account is in order 
  • Parent Participation Points: help out at SKSC club functions, hosted events, etc... 
  • Treat other parents, athletes and coaches with respect 
  • Have a positive attitude and do not engage in negative gossip in the bleachers with other parents 
  • Adhere to Parent Code of Conduct
Graduation Guidelines into Silver Group 
  • Must be able to perform legal breaststroke and dolphin kick 
  • Must be able to dive and complete basic flip turn 
  • 100 IM under 2:45 and 100 free under 2:30
  • Successful 2 week trial period with Silver Group 
(Please note making time standard does not automatically qualify or disqualify swimmer to move into the next group.  Move ups are solely up to coaches’ discretion.)
