Description (Designed for ages 7 to 12)

These swimmers can perform all 4 kicks legally and mastering the basics behind all 4 strokes and legally performing turns.  Swimmers who have completed their Red Cross level 8 or above in swim lessons will often enter the club at this level.  This group is at the FUNdamental Stage in the Long Term Athlete Development model (LTAD).  These swimmers will be encouraged to participate in PASS level competitions with other beginner athletes from 3 local clubs offered about once a month.

Schedule Options:
  • Includes activation, dryland and water times

Pre-requisite
  • Graduation from Bronze Group or can legally perform backstroke, breaststroke and front crawl (freestyle)
  • Complete 100IM under 2:45 and 100 free under 2:30
  • Perform legal whip kick and dolphin kick
  • Able to perform basic dive and flip turn
Goals      
  • Have Fun!
  • Learn to perform all 4 competitive strokes legally
  • Learn to perform dive starts, flip turns and open turns legally
  • Understand basic competitive rules and learn to follow them
  • Establish regular attendance habits
  • Consistently use proper lane etiquette
  • Understand how to read a pace clock
  • Aim for silver standard of 4:30 200IM and 4:00 200 free
  • Wear goggles consistently along with a swim cap (for those with long hair)
Swimmer Expectations
  • Strive to attend all workouts 
  • Arrive 5 minutes before practice starts so you can start on time
  • Start learning to wear goggles and a swim cap in workout
  • Use perscription goggles if swimmers cannot read the clock
  • Bring a water bottle to every workout 
  • Participate in at least 1 PASS and other club events or functions
  • Treat others with respect and care 
  • Have a positive attitude  
  • Adhere to Athlete Code of Conduct 
Parent Expectations
  • Arrange to get your swimmer to practices and events on time 
  • Contact your coach if your swimmer is going to miss workout
  • If your swimmer requires assistance with the bathroom or has behavioural issues to remain near the group but do not interfere with the workout unless approached by a coach
  • Contact your coach directly if you have any concerns regarding your swimmer and their training 
  • Stay up-to-date with club news via hand-outs, emails, website, bulletin boards and/or communication with coaches and board 
  • Ensure all fees are paid on time and account is in order 
  • Parent Participation Points: help out at SKSC club functions, hosted events, timing at PASS meets, etc... 
  • Treat other parents, athletes and coaches with respect 
  • Have a positive attitude and do not engage in negative gossip in the bleachers with other parents 
  • Adhere to Parent Code of Conduct
Graduation Guideline into Gold Group
  • Must be able to swim all strokes legally for 50 metres
  • Must be able to do legal dive starts, flip turns and open turns
  • Silver Standard at PASS level (4:30 200IM and 4:00 200 free)
  • Successful two week trial period
(Please note making time standard does not automatically qualify or disqualify swimmer to move into the next group.  Move ups are solely up to coaches’ discretion.)
