No previous experience is necessary to join the UBC Novice Rowing team. Rowing is a late entry sport, and some of our program's best athletes started in the novice program, going on to win National, International and even Olympic titles. At the beginning of each school year in September we look to recruit some of the best athletes on campus.
We are always looking for:
Tall men and women in first year who have never rowed before.
Men: 6'1" - 6'9" and 180-250lbs for heavyweight, and 5'11" - 6'3" and 155-170lbs for lightweight rowers.
Women: 5'8" - 6'5" and 155-200lbs for heavyweight, and 5'7" - 5'11" and 125-140lbs for lightweights.
Coxswains: under 5'7" and 140lbs for men's team, under 5'7" and 130lbs for women's team.
Both male and female coxswains can successfully participate on either team.
