For our new swimmers and families, you may be wondering what Swim-A-Thon is.
Swim-A-Thon is an opportunity for Swim Clubs across Canada to raise funds to support special events or to keep fees as low as possible. Each swimmer will complete 200 lengths or 2 hours of swimming (whichever comes first!). Typically, the older swimmers will do the 200 lengths and the newer swimmers will have a goal to see how many they can complete in 2 hours.
The Upper Canada Swim Club requires that each swimmer registered in a competitive program (Bronze through National), in either Session 1 or Session 2, raise $250 through Swim a Thon. If you don't wish to participate or if you are unable to raise the full amount in pledges, your account will be billed for the difference between what your swimmer raised and the $250 minimum on May 1 of each year.
From a fundraising point of view the club would love to have some extra funds so that we can pay for some travel expenses for away meets or allow our swimmers to compete in out of province events. Perhaps a special training camp during March break or a fun trip away for the whole team? This funding can buy some great experiences for our swimmers!
UCSC in partnership with Swimming Canada, provides a set of electronic tools for helping fundraise using social media like Facebook. You will hear more about Swim a Thon, the process for collecting pledges and the date of the actual swim early in each calendar year. Generally, the swim itself is scheduled in March.
