Coach Ailidh Sheldon

I started swimming with Surfside in 2005 when I was 10 years old and Beth was my first coach!  My favorite memory at Surfside is when I was a B swimmer and fell in the pool wearing my parka. It was hilarious. I grew up in the South Bay and went to Redondo Union High School. I attended El Camino College and am currently waiting to start nursing school in fall 2018. In the mean time I have been working as a one on one for special education students in the Redondo School District.

My goal growing up was to become an LA County Lifeguard, so I participated in Junior Guards from 11-18 years old and did cadets at Redondo Beach for 2 years.  Unfortunately I broke my ankle in high school playing basketball, so I wasn’t able to achieve my goal and become a LA County Lifeguard, so I changed career paths and decided to go to pursue a nursing degree.  I also volunteered as a Health Scholar for a year at St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach.

I’ve played a handful of sports including swim, surf team, water polo, soccer, tennis and softball.  I swam competitively for West High, surfed for RUHS and played water polo for El Camino College.  I worked as a lifeguard at RUHS and currently hold private lessons there.  I have also taught lessons and worked as a lifeguard at the Bay Club in Culver City.

In 2010 I volunteered at Surfside, first as a stroke coach and later provided coverage for the coaches.  In 2011, I became the C’s coach.  My goal as a coach is for every swimmer to have FUN! And my favorite part of being a Surfside Coach is helping swimmers achieve their goals.  I love when my swimmers come to practice with a good attitude.  When they are having fun, they will be more enthusiastic and excited to come to practice and work hard.
