Swimmers at Bakersfield Aquatics Club are encouraged to get involved with swim meets once they have met the basic proficiencies of at least one stroke. At swim meets, a true love of the sport is developed. Swim meets are a chance to work on skills and techniques, measure progress being made during practice, and determine what a swimmer needs to work on to continue improving.Bakersfield Aquatics Club strongly suggests that all swimmers attend at least one swim meet per season.
Summer Kern Swimming Meets
These are our summer recreational meets for new or seasonal swimmers who like to swim competitively but aren't ready or interested for the club level yet. These are much closer and easier to get to, but can take a full day, so come prepared with sunscreen, food, water and games. Swimmers will be guided through the behind the blocks process by volunteers at the meet. This is a great first step into competitive swim. Please see the Kern Swimming Website for more information. Cost is generally between $3-6 per event. Swim times are not official USA Swim certified and can be looked up in the Kern Swimming Database. Kern Swimming season culminates in the Kern County Championship Meet in July.
USA Swim Sanctioned Swim Meets
Any Bakersfield Aquatics Club Swimmer is eligible to compete in USA Sanctioned swim meets. Some new families prefer to skip Kern Swimming meets and start directly with club. These meets can be farther away, involving more travel, more competition, and are a little more advanced. They are GREAT for an adventurous swimmer who is excited to learn how to be a little more independent at meets. These meets generally run much more efficiently than summer recreational league meets. Swim times at USA Sanctioned club meets are official USA Swim times and are recorded in the national USA Swim database. There are two seasons with year round club swimming (Short Course and Long Course). Ask your coach today for more information and to find out if your swimmer is ready to step up their competitive swimming today!
