Typically swimmers will not have to share a lane with more than one other person. Many swimmers prefer to divide the lane in half so that they may each do their own workout comfortably. The best approach when searching for a lane mate is to find someone that appears to have the most similar swimming ability as yourself. Before entering the water with another swimmer, please sit on the side of the pool and gain the other person's attention before beginning your swim. Always stay aware of other swimmers.
If you are having troubles selecting a lane mate, feel free to ask the lifeguard for assistance. If you are having problems with other lap or public swimmers disrupting your swim, please ask the lifeguard to help control the situation.
