Effective immediately, we will be following the plan below in case of flood dangers in the Manitou area-
FLOOD POLICY: IF THERE IS A FLOOD WARNING ISSUED FOR MANITOU SPRINGS,
THE POOL WILL CLOSE FOR THE REST OF THE DAY.
PLEASE WATCH YOUR LOCAL NEWS FOR WEATHER ALERTS!
- Flood Watch = We will watch for the dangers of a flash flood and continue to listen to the weather forecast for updates.
- Flood Warning Alert to Police Department = If the weather services contacts the Police Department that a Flood Warning will be issued at a certain time, the Police department will contact us to close the pool. We will then notify all patrons that the facility will be shutting down and advise patrons to exit as soon as possible.
- Flood Warning = When the weather service issues a Flood Warning for Manitou Springs, we will will then notify all patrons that the facility will be shutting down and advise patrons to exit as soon as possible.
The lifeguard staff will follow a set plan for evacuation. If creek conditions are still safe, we ask you to exit to your vehicles and recommend that you leave the area immediately. If creek conditions are dangerous, we will evacuate to one of the two staging areas. Staging area one will be out the back door to the creek walk and then west above the outdoor bathrooms. If weather conditions are too severe to remain outdoors or the flooding is more severe, we will go to staging area #2 and continue up to El Paso Blvd. and then go west to the Red Crags Bed & Breakfast Inn (302 El Paso Boulevard) for shelter. When possible, patrons will be moved to a city shelter.
FACILITY CLOSURES WILL BE POSTED ONLINE AS SOON AS IT IS SAFE TO DO SO. OUR RECOMMENDATION IS THAT YOU WATCH THE AREA FORECAST EACH DAY AND IF "FLOODING" STORMS ARE PREDICTED, CALL THE POOL OR GO TO WWW.MANITOUPOOL.COM TO SEE IF WE ARE OPEN BEFORE YOU ATTEND ANY ONE OF OUR PROGRAMS!
