Marlin Parent Volunteer Organization

Marlin Parent Committees:

The Marlins parent committees are set up to coordinate different social activities for the swimmers, to staff Marlin sponsored meets, to organize fundraising for the team, to coordinate team apparel, as well as perform other team related tasks. It is made up of interested parents like you, and we welcome your involvement.

Parents Committees' Job Descriptions

The following page gives a brief description of how the Marlins’ Parents’ Committees are structured, as well as, the responsibilities of each committee.

Registration: Organize the registration process at the beginning of the short course, the beginning of long course season, and pre-registration in the summer. This committee is responsible for collecting all of the necessary paperwork at the specified registration dates.

Team Apparel: Establish procedure and organize sale of coach-approved swimwear throughout the season. Create and design team spirit wear throughout the season. Act as liaison to Swim ‘n Surf and Chilly Bear for order fulfillment. Keep appropriate records.

Events/Social Activities: Organize and set dates for team social activities and events throughout the year: from team holiday parties, to social activities within each group, as well as, team field trips during the summer.

Meet Manager: This individual will organize the meets that we host, identify and coordinate meet workers, and assist the Meet Referee the day of the meet to ensure set up of computers and the Colorado Timing System. In addition to the above responsibilities the meet manager will work closely to the meet director.

Travel: Set up and negotiate hotel rooms at various travel meets that we attend throughout the year. Work and meal assignments will be organized by the travel chair. This includes all championship meets, as well as, a few additional travel meets.

Awards Dinner: Organize the awards dinner at the end of the short course season; traditionally it is held mid-April. This committee is to determine a location to hold the dinner and work closely with the coaches in picking a date, selecting the awards, and organizing the silent auction.

Fundraising: Establish one or more fundraising events throughout the year.

Team Pictures:

  • Photograph team members, coaches and parents for use in team promotions and the team website

  • Organize the annual team photo

Official Chairperson:

  • Encourage and recruit parents to become certified USA officials

  • Communicate upcoming clinics for officials

Volunteer Coordinator: Organize and keeps track of all family work credits throughout the short course and long course season.

Overall Structure of Each Committee: Each committee will consist of a Committee Chairperson who will preside over all meetings and oversee the affairs of their respective committee. The Parent Advisory Committee will appoint each Committee Chairperson. The Committee Chairperson will appoint a Co-Chairperson. All other positions will be filled on a volunteer basis. Each committee will meet as often as deemed necessary. The function of each committee is to assist the coaching staff in the implementation of the committee’s mission.

Aquatic Advisory Board: The Aquatic Advisory Board is comprised of board members, senior Y management, the aquatic director and a parent representative from the dive, water polo and swim teams. The goal of the board is to ensure that the facility is running properly, that the programs are fulfilling their goals and obligations, and that there is regular dialog among Y management, board members and the aquatic community. The board meets quarterly or on an as needed basis, to review the programs and address any outstanding issues, grievances, or disciplinary actions.
