Description: (competitive group) This group will focus on the development of our age group level swimmer in order to prepare him or her for progression in the Barracuda group. Swimmers in this group will improve through continued development of stroke technique and an increasing emphasis on physical conditioning. The concepts of power generation and proper use of strength will be emphasized. Practices will be structured around 33 percent technique and 66 percent conditioning.
Requirements: Swim 100 yards proficiently in all strokes and the 200IM; Understand and adhere to general rules of starts and finishes for each stroke in competition; Understand and follow the instructions to complete swim sets in practices; Must pay attention to instruction and work well with other swimmers; Own and wear proper swimming attire such as a competitive suit, swim cap (if applicable) and goggles.
Practice Schedule: All swimmers are required to attend 5 practices per week. Athletes involved in any other High School Athletic program other than swimming are required to attend 2 practices per week during the season. It is highly recommended that swimmers attend all possible practices. We ask that the coaching staff is notified in the event of a long-term absence or of a consistent conflict throughout the season.
Competitive Meets: Swimmers are required to compete in 5 competitive meets during the short course season and 3 competitive meets during the long course season -- plus regional championships (if he or she qualifies). During the week prior to a meet, swimmers MUST attend 2 practices to compete in the attending meet.
Attitude: Swimmers must present a strong desire to learn efficient stroke techniques and be willing to improve through increased physical conditioning. Athletes are expected to promote a team environment at practices, meets, and all AquaFlyers events by showing support for their teammates and pride in their team. All swimmers are expected to be on the deck at the start of their practice and have a positive attitude, respect their coaches and fellow swimmers, act safely, and respect all additional rules outlined in the New Fairfield AquaFlyers Handbook posted on our website.
Please Note: Final decision regarding participation will reside with the coaching staff.
Multi-Swimmer Discount: For families with multiple swimmers, there is a $50 discount on the program fee per additional swimmer after the first swimmer is registered at full price.
We encourage all Aquaflyers families to visit the Program Fees page on our website for a detailed explanation on all costs and payments.
Important Note: Please note that the season approximately 24 weeks long, however, there are times practice might be cancelled due to pool closures, school closings or other reason. We try to make up some canceled classes when we can but there is no guarantee on make-up classes.
