The Oxford Otters Swim Team is a USA Swimming registered team and a part of America's Team.
USA Swimming sets the standards for teaching competitive swimming to age group swimmers. Our USA certified coaches learn the same methods, theories, techniques and skills that our Olympic coaches use through clinics, swim conferences and on-line classes.
USA Swimming is the fast track to success. Swimmers who register with USA will get more pool time and can compete in a variety of events not offered by Yankee League. USA swimmers have the opportunity to expand their competition base by swimming in more challenging events with more challenging competition.
USA Swimmers will also have access to Deck Pass which is the digital forum to the fast lane. Deck Pass lets swimmers earn virtual patches for achieving personal milestones, keep a personal log book, set and track goals, and post best times for local and national ranking and recognition.
USA Membership: Membership is required to participate in any USA sanctioned swim meet. USA meets have a variety of different formats. Specialized meets such as distance meets, pentathlons, freestyle frenzies, 8 & unders only, are just some of the different meets offered. Participation also provides the opportunity to qualify for Regional and Age Group Championships as well as Zone Championship, Jr. and Senior Nationals.
Other advantages include:
- A subscription to USA Swimming's award-winning Splash Magazine which includes articles on fitness, nutrition, athlete bios, etc.
- Members can track their times online database and compare their times to local & national standards
- Members are eligible to participate in local and national swimming camps
- Connecticut Swimming, Inc. offers recognition for Top 16 times (each event, each age group), scholar athlete & other awards
USA Meets: USA swimming is for every swimmer, regardless of ability, however our coaches recommend that swimmers have at least 2 “legal” strokes before participating in a meet. If you are not sure if competing in USA swim meets is for your child, please discuss it with your child’s respective coach. USA meets are held on Saturday and /or Sunday, and are differentiated by age and ability level. Typically, 10-15 teams compete at a USA meet and they are always officiated. The USA rules state that swimmers compete in the age group based on their age on the first day of the meet.
