WHAT IS THE SWIM-A-THON?
RAC’S biggest event of the year! During the Swim-a-Thon, approximately 200 children and adults will each swim to raise money for our program. In addition, some of the money raised will go back to the USA Swimming Foundation to support learn-to- swim programs and to provide financial support to our U.S. National Team athletes and coaches.
WHY DO I HAVE TO FUNDRAISE? WHY NOT JUST INCREASE OUR FEES?
RAC is a 501c3 nonprofit organization and 12% of our operating budget comes from fundraisers. Having the swim-a-thon allows us to reach out to the business community and others to help support our club, so that not all the monies come from RAC parents. If we did not fundraise, program fees would be raised over 15% (far more than your required fundraising commitment) which would make the costs prohibitive for some to swim.
WHY SHOULD I SIGN UP BUSINESS SPONSORS?
So you don’t have to write the check yourself! And a big second to that is that we can bring additional funds and awareness to our club from the community. Last year only 25 families brought in a business sponsor and yet these sponsorships accounted for approximately half of the money raised. It really makes a difference.
WHO SHOULD I ASK TO BE A BUSINESS SPONSOR?
Anyone that you know that owns a business! Friends, doctors, lawyers, service providers, etc…. Check out our sponsor board at the pool to get ideas. Sponsorships begin at $200 and we offer great exposure to businesses in the community.
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO ASK BUSINESSES TO BE A SPONSOR?
We have a letter all printed up that you can just email or give those you know (with a nice smile). You can go to the Business Sponsor LTR under the Swim-A-Ton tab on our website or click below to print a copy. Just remember that the deadline is January 20th, 2020, so we have time to include them on the tee shirt, sponsor board & website.
WHY SHOULD I ASK FRIENDS & FAMILY TO CONTRIBUTE?
Many times family and friends are happy to support our kids and their endeavors and they like to get involved. Sometimes all it takes is asking. It is also a vehicle to raise more funds for the club.
HOW IS THE MONEY COLLECTED?
For your fundraising convenience, we have an online giving site. Ask your donors to just click the "lane line" at the top of the home page of the website. To avoid processing fees though, we do prefer checks. If team parents want to make a donation on behalf of their swimmers, please help us save fees by giving a check to our Treasurer.
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO ASK FRIENDS AND FAMILY FOR DONATIONS?
We think that email is the easiest way to ask friends and family. If you want to ask someone to contribute but they don't have email, we also have a “snail mail” letter written up that you can download print and mail:
